No luck! Sunday afternoon I sat a ground blind up in the feild 60 yards from where I usually sit.I didn't want to spook the turkeys off the roost.Got in the blind at 5:15A.M.There was 1 gobbler and a hen roosted farther back on the creekline. There was lots of gobbling going on in the woods beside me.The hen started to per, cut, and yelp and just plain going off.I had 4 longbeards walk down the creekline gobbling and seen 1 strutter out of the bunch[60 yards away].They were on a mission to find that hen. That was at 6:55a.m. If I would have been sitting where I usually do[shot 1 of my gobblers last year at] the 4 longbeards would have walked over my legs. They went on the other side of the creek and I had to run back to my truck so I could get to work on time.I hope I have better luck tomarrow.I got a new plan,I hope it works, just not much time for errors when I can only hunt 40 min. before work.I plan on getting to my spot by 4:45A.M.That is all for today, now I got to go to bed!

Last weekend was a bust. The birds in my area were ice cold but we did locate an area that looks like it's holding a good bear by the size of the shat we found. Apparently everywhere else in the state the birds were on fire. LOL. Anyways didn't go out today due to the wind and work being so hectic. I'll be hitting it tomorrow for sure. Still have about 5 weeks left. Talk to you all soon. Congrats to those who got one and good luck to all the others.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck SourthenILdeerhunter, and congrats Pointing Dogs Rule on your bird. Tomorrow morning marks the start of my 5day season. I got permission to hunt a spot where there's been sightings, as of tonight in fact, just before dusk. So I'll be heading in early tomorrow morning. I'll update around 10:15 (breaktime at work lol)

Great job slash! Sorry team, no points from me.I just got back from Kansas, had some close calls but no luck.I had to deal with storms and tornadows all week.I don't think I will ever live in south central Kansas. To many bad storms for me.It was a great experiance and I had lots of fun!Leaving Ohio and not knowing where to go or what to expect in Kansas was a adventure in itself.Today,I got back in enough time to hunt the last evening in Ohio and got busted going in the woods and coming out too. This season was bad, because of no birds, but great because of the experiances I had. It's like my nephew told me,"Uncle Jesse-it's called hunting not killing." Good luck to all of you and the rest of your seasons.

Jesse:

Glad that you had a great trip to Kansas. I can relate to those trips. I have taken a lot of those trips. Often with no success, however, they are always enjoyable and I use them as building experiences. After many trips I now have many quality places to hunt turkey and deer away from Iowa. Most importantly I have met some of the nicest people in the world out west. Many great memories.

Remember: build on those trips for future trips.

good luck to all

  • 2 weeks later...

Well guys, I'm out. No luck this year. What a terrible season. The weather was terrible for a lot of the season and when it wasn't the birds just werent talking. I've never seen a year like this and I'm sure sorry. On two weekends of helping my friend with his bear hunt we heard 1 gobble but saw 23 bears. It was a great spring for bears but terrible for turkeys. Buddy didn't shoot a bear. He passed on several dinks, missed a giant, and a medium blacky gave us the slip on the last day.

Anyways sorry I didn't contribute, but thats the way it goes sometimes I guess.
