Hi KT, I haven't had the time to keep up with everything so I'm not sure what happened with dakota. Whatever you all want to do is OK with me. The contests just add a little more fun to the hunting for me. Not really concerned with winning.

Went out Friday morning trying to fill my second tag. I had a gobbler coming in and then a hen came up behind me and busted me. She took off and stole the gobbler.

Going in the morning for my last turkey hunt for the year. Hope I can manage an upgrade.

Boys Im tellin ya if I hadnt whacked Ted Id probably be dead weight on the team... Turkeys seem to have disappeared on the honey hole land I hunt behind the house here.... Wife's uncle caught someone shooting at a turkey on our land back in deer season, sadly it was someone we knew and we in a round about way let him know we caught him.... other than that I dont know whats happened to them....

Did you post in the lounge to see if anyone has heard anything from Dakota?

no to be hpnest I dont like talking about things like what he's had to go through, I just skimmed the posts other people amde and if I remember correctly he had to have open heart surgery to install a defibulator.... some pretty serious stuff and that dosent sound like he'll be hunting turkeys... I know I wouldnt be, his #1 priority should be his health and I feel bad for him..... It dosent matter if he stays on the team to me but part of me is extremely competitive and I feel bad for bringing it up about replacing him, but Im sure he wouldnt want to be on the team if he knew he couldnt hunt....

I hope Dakota is doing alright.

Well team, my season is over! I was on 3 different brids on my last hunt but they wouldn't come in. Had some bad luck on my initial set-up. I set up (in the dark) 50 yards from a flock. I knew they were around that area, but I had no idea I was setting up that close. I'm sure they saw me placing my decoys and at sun-up they flew down and went the other way.

Good luck to all still in the game!

Hey all,

Sorry I haven't been able to get on in a while. I'm really bummed I'm not able to get out this year and whack one for the team. There is a slight possibility I might be able to go out later this month but, since I can't do a whole lot of walking and lifting, it would probably be with a rifle from 200 yards and I'm not quite sure how I feel about that. :( Maybe you just do what you need to do to get a legal bird on the ground, I guess.:(

The long and the short of it is this: I had a new pacemaker/defibrulator put in as well as a new wire connecting to my left ventricle to help it pump more efficiently. I'm on 6 different meds, can't drive or lift more than 10lbs. til tomorrow, can't lift more than 25lbs. for an additional 6 weeks and don't know when I'll be able to draw back my bow. I'm also on a permanent low sodium diet which REALLY stinks! At some point...I'm going to have to have a heart transplant. Could be in 2-3 months...2-3 year...they even threw out 15-20 years depending on how this new pacemaker/defibrulator/medicine combo works. I'm on Cumadin (a blood thinner) as well to reduce the risk of clotting and have had to go to the hospital almost every morning for lab work to manage my INR level.

As you can see, things are getting permanently interesting for me. :D Hope you all bag some gobblers and I'll do my best to get better and get back out there as well. ;)

Dakota :)

  • 2 weeks later...

Well guys I haven't gotten one yet, but I've seen birds every time I've sat. I went out Saturday morning and evening, sunday morning and evening, and this morning. I had 3 Toms come in on Saturday, but missed at 50 yards. The arrow flew right over his back. It was on of the best days I've had turkey hunting though. We're going to let it cool down in there for the a couple of days and then I'll be at it again this Thursday. I think I have till the 28th so there is still lots of time.
