hutchies
http://finance.yahoo.com/news/USPS-to-propose-5day-mail-cnnm-4552368.html?x=0 What a load of crap...........Our mail around here is rediculous anyway and now they are gonna make it slower. For me to mail to Dallas it has to leave Madill which is half way between dallas and okc. It goes to Tulsa, Then is sorted in Oklahoma city, then to Dallas. Oh and for those of you that sell alot of stuff......... I shipped a bow for the first time in a while yesterday. Shipping was $37 and Insurance was $5..............:chair:
texastrophies
I would rather see 5 day a week delivery than raise the rates again. Makes sense to me.
hutchies
I talked to a buddy last night.............He told me to go to Fed ex. He shipped a bow with insurance last week under $30 If it is up to me here at work I would just as soon we start faxing everything but checks
wtnhunt
There was some talk of a shortened work week for usps not too long back, no surprise on these type losses really that it is coming up again. Excuses are what they are, if they are losing money 6 days a week, what makes them think it will be any different 5 days a week. Would seem some management changes need made. Far as the service they provide, we have all kinds of problems with our mail delivery.
The_Kat
I shipped a bow two weeks ago via USPS for 29.??. I learned the hard way on shipping with UPS, they are WAY expensive. USPS is still my number one vote for shipping price wise. Not to mention UPS lost my friggin wheels that I ordered 3 weeks ago and sent em to Washington, then somehow they ended up in Michigan, n now are finally due here tomorrow. I don't trust any of em! Guest TennesseeTurkey
WOW I got the shaft when I shipped my bow! I insured it to 735 and they said it was "over sized" I paid almost 120 to ship it! :jaw:!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The_Kat
Ya you have to keep the box as small as possible. I shipped a bow once through UPS and used one of their boxes....ya cost me about 70$ insured. Screw that!

MichiganHunter
why not add sunday hours or lower rates and try to increas their traffic.....oh well just means they will loose even more money.

Its getting too expensive to send Christmas cards. Afraid to say it, but guessing a shorter work week will not stall the escalating rates. I vaguely remember as a kid being able to buy a roll of stamps for $10, that was less than 30 years ago, how much of the increase can really be attributed to inflation. hutchies
Ever seen what some of the postal employees make? $20 an hour to sort mail is rediculous.
The_Kat
20$ an hour isn't a whole lot these days. Its good pay, but not great. My uncle is one of those guys who gets paid to sort mail, and he does ok, but theres no overtime.
hutchies
In the scheme of things if they hired people and topped them out at $15 that would be a difference of $200 a person per week. Wal mart doesn't have a problem finding employees. I hate to be the guy to say it and this will probably piss some people off over it but I think alot of people are overpaid for the jobs they do. We as a nation have pushed to raise wages so high that now people can't afford the goods that American's are producing. Why do you think China and Japan can still make a fortune shipping over .99 cent products to our country to sell. I believe there are people out there that get paid less than what they are worth to companies. Kyle I know I'm not much older than you but I can remember when my mother made it by on $10 an hour paying for a brick house and supporting 2 kids without any help from my father. Yeah times were tight but I can remember working for $4 an hour and now try to tell a 18 year old kid you are gonna pay him $6 an hour and see if he don't laugh at you. Now you can't hardly support a family on 2 people making $10 a hour and working full time. Middle class used to be the backbone of this country and now the middle can barely afford to pay their bills, feed their family, and have anything left. Ohiobucks
This shouldn't surprise anyone, because the government runs the post office. If you like what government has done and will do with the post office, wait to you see what happens with health care.......:chair:

Adjam5
I just had my Axis deer meat shipped up to me from Texas last week. The processor told me UPS wanted over $400 to ship 115lbs of meat in 2 boxes( 2 day shipping)! He wound up going with FedEx to ship the same stuff, 2 day; for less than half of what UPS charges. Shipping prices are out of control, fuel delivery surcharges are still being charged! INSANE!

Everything with sugar went up through the roof and stayed there. The next couple of years sugar was selling for pennies. They burned cane fields because they had way too much. Do you think sugared goods came down with it? Same with coffee. Had a bean freeze and coffee prices went through the roof. Same as with the sugar. Then there was fuel prices through the roof...etc,.etc,.

sskybnd
im with some of you, 5 days a week an't going to help, but like you said it's run by the goverment, and has any one ever seen a goverment employee that dont make good money, and more days off than any worker in america. my thoughts on the bills is make more money or live on less. redkneck
Sounds like a good idea to me. They can cut it back to 3 days if they want to, nothing but bills coming to my box They also need to consolidate. There's no need for a little town like mine with about 250 ppl in it to have a freaking new PO that probably cost the taxpayers a half million to build! I pay everything online, rarely use a stamp these days....... of course therein lies a lot of their problem.
stevebeilgard
Wait until you see what you will pay for mail when the Gov doesn't run it. we already see it. they are called ups, fedex, etc. and they are all shipping better, cheaper, faster, etc. one of the problems here is email. why send a letter when you have free email? why send a hallmark card when you can email a free card? and why ship with the post office when ups and fedex are better and usually cheaper. finally, let's not forget the 7 billion dollar defic that the post office ran just in 2009. that does not even count the retirement plans for the postal workers. now the bad news. this is the same wonderful goverment folks who want to give you health care. :pop:
