Re: jci63\'s Piebald full mount.

The deer was taken on Dec. 19th, 2004. The last day of the Michigan firearm Season in Alanson Michigan (outside of Petoskey).

The last day of the season was bitter cold -12deg without wind chill. I had seen around 10 does in the morning. I went out to may shack around 2:30 and cranked the heat up full blast, went back out to my shack around 4:10. Now normally I go at 4:30 on the button. I got into the shack at it was around 65deg inside, I looked over and seen a deer moving in the woods. I picked up my bino's and seen it was a doe. It layed down kinda watching the trail. (And we think we have them patterned!) Anyway, a couple minutes go by and I see another deer moving in the woods, pickup bino's and it's another doe, it lays down. Some time passes and all of sudden deer are running all over the place, I first think a snowmobilier has ruined my last day hunting! I listen and no snowmobile, I keep watching and I look over and see something white, my first thought is it's a coyote. I pick-up the bino's and see it's a deer, with a rack. It's an 8 point buck. I watch the deer for awile and see three brown patches of fur. One on it's head, one on each leg. The deer is about 5 yards from being out of site, I open the window in the shack and shoot. I go over to the spot and 30 yards away, thier he lays. Double lung!

I range find the distance later, and find out it was 218 yards.

After I shot the deer and word got around town, the trouble starts. I had a rough time for awile, because he's so cute and rare. But I did find out thier are a total of three of these Deer in the area. A 5 year old 10 point, a doe, and a button buck. These animals were legal to shot for some time in our state. Until a Senator in the U.P. had one get killed he was feeding. Ever since 1990 in Michigan, Albino & White Deer are protected. The law describes an Albino and White deer as being 100% white. And a piebald with spots of brown. My local DNR did some test, seen the deer, and the way the law is written IT"S LEGAL in the State Of Michigan. It's a dumb law, even the biologist at the DNR said so! These deer are gentic defects and are not good for the herd. They are neat to see, exspecially in my living room, to me!
