Bowtech_archer07
Just curious. ccwhitey and I have been wagering a dinner on deer season and this year he wanted to apply it to turkey season since both of our deer seasons went to crap.. lol Our wager is this: I am going to hunt the entire length of both of my permits(a total of 13 days) and I will be hunting with a shotgun. ccwhitey will only be able to hunt a total of 2 days and he will be hunting with a bow. I have to fill both of my tags with a longbeard while he only has to take one bird. If we both tag out, then he will score his bird and I will score the smaller of my 2 birds by NWTF standards and whoever has the biggest bird wins. Just wondering if anybody else did anything like this whether it be heaviest bird, longest beard or spur. It's just a little friendly competition between us. Heck we do it shooting bows in the offseason and all kinds of stuff.
Diamond Archer 01
That is pretty cool. Me and a few friends usually just have a little bet to see who could get the biggest bird in weight, bird length, and spur length. The winner just gets bragging rights. Nothing big really tho. wtnhunt
No wagers here, at least not this year. Will be lucky if I even get out after the youth hunt with my oldest daughter.
slaw
ARE YOU KIDDIN ME?....Where I hunt in Illinois there's no way I'd bet on anything . Turkey hunting is sooooo unpredictable....you don't know if your hunt is only gonna last 10 minutes , or hunt your tail off every day and still wind up with nuttin.....one thing is for sure , I will try my best and love every minute of it. Yep, I agree with Slaw on this one. My area here in PA is also the same situation and there is no way I would even think about doing something like betting. :nono: lol. Nope, not kidding. What you described is a pretty good description of hunting though. There is never a guarantee that you will see any animal when you go hunting, much less the game you are after, much have everything happen perfectly to where you get a shot and then you make a clean ethical shot that kills the animal as humanely as possible. That's why it's called hunting and that's why we keep going out day after day, year after year to chase the animals. It's not like we bet someone's life either, just dinner on a friendly competition. I agree with you that I'll spend as much time as possible in the woods and love it but i think all you have done is give a pretty good description of hunting. layin on the smackdown
If i were to wager anything on a turkey hunt, i would bet that i wouldn't get crap, seeing as how i have only killed one turkey in my whole life....Actually, what we do at turkey camp is usually bet with adult beverages - the winner gets his/her choice, and the rest of us just endulge and enjoy the commradere. Limbhanger
I will wager many will have a tough season hearing gobbling birds? Not tough that you still can't kill them, but tough as in those who enjoy hearing them.Over the years atleast around here in parts of PA that get good pressure, this seems to be the trend. Every year the gobbling just seems to really drop off as compared to previous years. The coulprits, way too many hens, and a lot of pressure. I look for this trend to continue as turkey hunting keeps gaining popularity, with people constantly messing with birds. And the hen population seems to continue to grow, as most do not pursue hens like they do Gobblers.
ccwhitey
We changed the bet a little. He came up with the idea with scoring his smaller bird but I told him that he can just score his first. Like he said this is the first year that we are placing this little friendly wager. Ever since we started to bet on deer hunting it has turn south so by the end of the season we may be regretting it :hammer1:
