Truly Canadian Icons

Canada has seemed to have gotten a reputation for being a multicultural nation. That's all good and well, but it just seems like those things that I used to associate with being truly Canadian are slowly making their way onto the backburners in lieu of being politically correct, gender neutral, socially acceptable or heaven forbid, that one person in 30 million is offended.

Over the years there have been certain icons that I think have defined this nation, or at least icons that I associate with being uniquely Canadian. Oh they're not any world class wonders or international stars on the world stage, but they're things or people that I'd put down in a biography or recipe for the makeup of a pure Canuck.

So here's my list of Canadian icons that define this here Canuck:

1. Red Green up at Possum Lodge and a roll of the 200 mph duct tape

2. Dudley Doright of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police

3. Frank and Gordon, the two beavers off of the Bell commercials during the winter olympics in 2006.

4. Joe, the guy from the Molson Canadian beer commercials who coined the phrase, "My name is Joe, and I.....AM.....CANADIAN!"

5. Relic, from the Beach Combers

6. Louis Riel, purely because he had the nads to say, "Up your nose with a rubber hose Ottawa!", or something like that.

7. Habitant pea soup with ham

8. Doug and Bob MacKenzie and real canadian back bacon (peameal bacon.........mmmmmmmmmmmmm!)

9. Vinegar on chips (french fries to non-canuckians)

10. And not all Canadians say "EH", but the vast majority of us say "please and thank you"

And in keeping with Canada's multicultural theme, I'll give honorary mention to a couple american characters that would fit well into a Canadian society:

a) The Hansen Brothers from the movie "Slapshot"

and

b) Bullwinkle J. Moose from Frostbite, Minnesota

My name is Geoff, and I.......AM......CANADIAN!

Yesirree bob! You gots'ta watch out for them there Caunucks with attack beavers! Right down vicious they are.....well with non-canuckians anyways! Most Canucks would just say "Please and thank you", offer them a beer and calm 'em right down!

'Cause as we all know, a beaver is a truly proud and noble animal.....amonst other things! ;)
