Guest Xen
I found a few reloading tables, but I am looking at a specif type of load for a 12 gauge. Looking to go VERY light with a 7/8 oz load. Only looking for about 1100 fps. There is one load that the closest I could find using the powder I want, said that 20.5 = 1250 fps, 21 = 1300 fps, 21.5 = 1350... any guesses what 18.5 grains would do? Following a simple and basic formula, it would theorize about .5 grain = 50 fps, but, how low before the fps really start to drop? I used the table from Hodgdon for the powder I want to use, which is Hodgdon International. The reason I want to use this powder is simple, I have about 12 lbs of it, which for powder, is a lot of reloading , also, I use it for loading 20 ga. AJ
Re: Reloading Questions Which powder are you using? Maybe we can come up with some published loads, or other components you could swap for some creampuff loads. You can't just reduce powder charges at will to get to a certain level. They need some pressure to operate properly. What components are you loading with?
Guest Xen
Re: Reloading Questions Winchester AA 2 3/4" Shells, Winchester 209 Primer, Hodgdon International Powder, WAA12SL Wad, 7/8 oz. #9 Shot. Using Hodgdon's Reloading Guide it shows 20.5 grains in that load type producing 1250 fps. I have a bushing that is currently dropping 18.5. I could always file it out and get more, but I'd really like to keep the loads as light as possible, but just strong enough to cycle a Remington 11-87. carbonhunter
Re: Reloading Questions I think you would be pushing it there but i dont shoot many remington guns, I know the powder puff 7/8oz loads we use for targets in our sxs's wont cycle my buddies 1100. looks like the same load you have above, but I'm shooting SOLO powder and it chrono's at 1228avg. AJ
Re: Reloading Questions I don't know if you can cycle down that low. You can load a few and see how it does, but I would not load more than a few. You are already below 8K psi. It may work as low as 19.0 gr but that is getting real low in pressure. This would probably be in the mid 6K psi range. Ya need to get one of the adjustable charge bars. They are great for this type of thing. Throw the bushings away. Guest Xen
Re: Reloading Questions i appreciate the info guys, i think i'm gonna go ahead and load about 10 shells since i have everything set up and just see how they shoot. If I have to, I can always increase up to 19 grains and try that. I figured I'd go up about 1/2 a grain at a time.
