Wobbly_Alaska
i use the tri tronics on my chessy... though i have begun to reconsider more toward the line of a 2x4 or 4x4 rather then the collar:hammer1: there are several options to choose from and you will have to look at your needs and training environment. mine has a 3/4 mile range and is water proof for water dogs and cost nearly 400 bucks when i purchased it 4 years ago.. the thing to keep in mind when conditioning a dog to the collar is to make sure they have a good understanding of what you want the to do before your use it on them.. over use and premature use can ruin a good dog. my Chesapeake is a knuckle head for sure, but he love to work, swim and retrieve, he loves training to the point he gets over excited to go do it.. so a good run behind the 4 wheeler for 3-4 miles is in order first. i use my collar to remind him of things when i am out of reach, or out of the water. occasionally he needs to be reminded to stop swimming and come back. so... questions to ask yourself and look at products.. how far will dog range? wet ? brush? open? will you use it as an electric fence around the yard also? how far will dog range before you notice they are gone? finally... your temperament? are you easily frustrated and / or angered? likely to take training frustrations out on the collar? when my dog wont do what i want it to... it is most often my fault. any way hope that helps a little with your selection. the better collars all come with a DVD to aide in their use. my chessy... knows when it is on.... i seldom have to ask twice while he wears it....and use it even less. the tone button is your best friend there
MUDRUNNER
I have a used one I would sell if you're interested. It's a Super Dog EDT100-1000 yard range-20 intensity levels-nick and continous modes-hard case and tester. Shoot me a p.m. if you're interested. If you're in the market for a new one, as mentioned above, Tri-Tronics seems to be top notch.
chris
thanks for the advice, extremely helpful,I am training my golden for quail hunting, and i've done all i think i can do verbally. my golden loves to point and retrieve, the only problems i'm having is that she gets to far ahead of me and doesn't want to come back on comand. I think she needs just a little more incinitive. So I'm not looking for anything waterproof, mainly just need something for distance and one I can adjust the power. If you have any ideas i'd loved to hear,THANKS.

hunterbobb
In my opinion the best shock collar is no shock collar. I prefer the old fashioned check cord method. It takes longer but is more human and builds a stronger bond with your dog. Too many people are taking the easy way out when using a shock collar. I would rather have my dog work for me because he wants to not because he's afraid too. Throw the collars away and work a little harder. The results will amaze you. :gun2:
dogdoc
i would never train a retriever without an e-collar. The best is tri-tronics!
MichiganHunter
I really dont mind a e color. I found that at first when training it was used quite a bit then less and less. and the last few times I hunted with my short hair before she got hit I put it on her and never had to turn the controler on. I agree that most people would rather not use them but to me its no different than haveing a long lead on you dog and giving it a hard yank. but I digress.......I use tri tronics and love them. Its nice that I have the ability to get her attention if she looses it for a second....cause with short hairs (have a new pup coming up now) they can be by you and a second later they can be 400yds away and going...they can really fly. bluelund79
Tri Tronics...They work great in conjunction with proper training. Don't over use it, its a tool, not a crutch.
