In my opinion this is just setting the stage so the federal government can get their hands directly on some of the sportsman's money which is now going solely to the individual states via license fees.

In other words, if we wanna keep fishing, it's gonna cost us.

This article pretty much sums up my thoughts.

http://www.examiner.com/x-37128-Charlotte-Fishing-Examiner~y2010m3d9-ESPN-claims-Obama-is-about-to-ban-fishing

Let me see there are at least 60 million licenses purchased each year in a 80(?) billion dollar industry. I do not think any politician is that dumb to tick off that many voters in one wack.

It is the same type arrogance with this that he has displayed with attempting to cram unwanted healthcare reform on the American people. Obama like many other politicians just doesn't seem to get it.

I have no health insurance and have needs,no job which means no fishing or hunting license for me(and people think I am a bum for collecting unemployment) and pretty much no life right now. I think I am beyond getting ticked off anymore.

Do you REALLY, REALLY, I mean REALLY believe that this administration is going to take away your right to go recreational fishing on your local stream, lake, pond? Just asking.....

http://www.flatheadbeacon.com/articles/article/white_house_photos_obama_fly_fishing_in_montana/12788/

Absolutely, I believe it. The White House is not backpedaling and the lady mentioned in the article said they WOULD solicit our opinions on the matter. Doesn't mean they will follow them though.

Once this hit the wire yesterday it hit the fan and now obama is backpedaling.

Read the article.

Edited to add: I don't think that obama is going to prevent me from fishing a local pond but this issue is attacking some fishing (offshore, river fishing, etc.). While I don't think my local fishing will be impacted but I am not going to turn my back on those that make their money or do some sort of fishing that I don't do. That's a slippery slope.

Same old thing from the White House, narrow tunnel vision. From day 1 till now its been about health care when we need to look at folks without a job. Obama says he's creating new jobs but the evening news tells me the % of unemployed has went up. I don't believe anything from that man:pacman: Blah, Blah.

No he didn't say he would create new jobs...............He said create OR SAVE 500,000 jobs............

Notice the or save in there which means he could create no jobs and still fulfill what he said

Ummm yeah, Obama made lots of promises that some folks supporting him(such as the "Sportsmen for Obama") were spouting off about like jobs and the economy, not to mention how Obama was going to take care of business with our troops and also satisfy all these different groups different interests. How's that working out for them with unemployment through the roof, men and women still dieing in Iraq, and a deficit/spending that is beyond astronomical. The human rights folks and the Brady bunch had their reasons for wanting Obama in, I really don't see this as a surprise. Hope those who voted for him and are still supportive of him are happy with that feel good "hope and change" he is attempting to bring despite the majority of people in this country not wanting it, think many who voted for him have had their eyes opened and realize the mistake they made. Going to be interesting to see how things play out with the upcoming elections this fall.

Nicely stated...I agree.

Listen guys...BHO knows what is best for us in this country...

Fishing must be something bad for us to do. Maybe we should listen to him...Ya...right.

You know what is next if they are going after fishing right?

Washington needs a BIG enema.

Where are the Sportsman for Obama?

Why do you guys believe what one opinion piece says as the truth?

In fact here is what ESPN says about the article from their website

ESPNOutdoors.com inadvertently contributed to a flare-up Tuesday when we posted the latest piece in a series of stories on President Barack Obama's newly created Ocean Policy Task Force, a column written by Robert Montgomery, a conservation writer for BASS since 1985. Regrettably, we made several errors in the editing and presentation of this installment. Though our series has included numerous news stories on the topic, this was not one of those -- it was an opinion piece, and should clearly have been labeled as commentary.

And while our series overall has examined several sides of the topic, this particular column was not properly balanced and failed to represent contrary points of view. We have reached out to people on every side of the issue and reported their points of view -- if they chose to respond -- throughout the series, but failed to do so in this specific column.

I am right there with you, Fred. I still have health care which is quite the expense but I have no choice not to keep it up for now. I am tired of collecting unewmployment and i need to go back to work. Somehow I feel like one of the chosen from one of those futuristic people herding movies. Better yet, a Brahma bull herded into the chute. The closer I get to whatever is on the other side of the door is making mean madder and meaner and really fed up with all of the BS espoused by this man and more so his administration.

I fear there are bigger issues ahead. Strings are being pulled to turn us all into sheep. The question is who is really doing the pulling. You have heard more times than not that the president is just a puppet. With this congress doing the things they are doing to Barry the Islander's bidding I fear that I might need to keep my ammunition in a place where I can get to it.

My dog can go out in the yard and do it's business. I could go out and drop a leftover christmas bow on the pile....but it wont change what it is and it ruins the bow.

My point being this....The government is busy placing bows on the piles their creating and expect us to turn our heads!

In the upcoming elections we need to get rid of the dogs and clean up the mess left behind!!!

Ironically out on the road today I saw a car with a couple bumper stickers on it:

Obama for President!

I'm for a God Free America!

The Religious Right has it Wrong!

Interesting combination of stickers to say the least.

Yeah, that's what everyone says until it is law.

I guess by that rational, you could fish out of season now....since closed seasons are a violation and restrictions of your rights, correct?

Keep in mind, if this happens it will be a violation of Federal law...not a simple misdemeanor if you are caught. I doubt many will risk that kind of jail time for violating it. Plus, there will be no shortage of people to turn you in because you are doing something they can't do any more.

There is no out of season fishing in Oklahoma. It's open all year. I live on a 90,000 acre lake and there are ponds everywhere. It would be dang hard for them to police it.

And for the comment you thought you would be funny on and put it about how it's a violation of my rights since they have a closed season. Your wrong.........They still give me the right to hunt and harvest 7 deer in my state. I have 3.5 months to do it in. I have no reason to hunt outside that when I normally put 5 in the freezer a year. If they took it totally away it would be a violation.
