deershed
It's been a pretty good year so far.I'm up to 76 sheds with 14 matched sets.I haven't found anything special or big,but they're all sheds and any shed is a good shed. My next hunt since I last posted was a 8 shed day.I found my best set for the year that day and a few nice ones. I started the day finding my first shed of the day at 6:20 and if it wasn't for the snow I never would have spotted it. I had to use a flash for pics.I ended up finding 4 sheds in the first 50 mnis. Not far away shed #2 for the day. As fast as I started walking again I spot another one. In a batch of bare ground an old one was next. Back in the snow I found the first half to the set I found that day. My brother that lives in N.H sent me a pic of this buck that his friend that lives down here sent him. It's about a mile from where I also got a pic of this same buck. A good while later after searching some serious ground for the mate to the last one I finally spotted this. And the 2 at home together. Happy with finding the 2 sides I started heading out to check out another spot.On the way out I walked through the area I started the day off in.In the low light I wanted to make sure I didn't walk by any sheds. Sure enough in between where I found my first 2 sheds I missed this one. My next spot I stopped to check was a small area. Here I only found an old busted up shed to end the day. And all 8 for the day. My next hunt was a 5 shed day.I really thought I'd make a killing on the sheds in this area, not. It was a huge cedar thicket with a good hike to back to. My first find today was a fresh one the squirrel already found. An hour or so later the mate to the last one. Alot of walking before another one.A nice 3pt.side with a busted off brow tine. There was a small chew on this one too. Next one was a fast one after the last one. This is where I thought things would pick up. A couple more hours in this area and nothing.I stopped on the way home in a small area for a quick look and only found one old chewed antler. The 5 for the day. My next hunt was another 5 shed day. I started off today searching 4 hours or so coming up empty.I then moved to a different area and found 5 in no time.Go figure...4 were all found with in 100yds. of each other. First one the rodents found first,I hate squirrels. Next was a nicer shed. Next was fast and not far away. It was alittle bit later, but not far from the last ones I spot this. After seraching the area good for mates and getting late I started heading out. Walking a field edge I spot this 20yds. into the woods to end my day. And all 5 for the day. Two more hunts and 19 more sheds......to be continued.
deershed
My next hunt was my second double digit day for the year finding 14. I planned I checking out another cedar thicket today. While walking back to the thicket I found an old one in some woods. Once in the cedars I found a dead head first. After the dead 8 I found a shed the squirrels worked over pretty good. I checked a good part of the thicket over then checked some more cedars out in a field. I no sooner started here when I spot 2 together. They weren't a set,but off 2 different buck. Before heading back to the cedars where I started I checked a small hillside out first. Here I spotted another dead head, another 8 pointer. While crossing a small creek to check out the buck I almost stepped on another dead head. Back in the upper end of the first thicket I spot this one about 20yds ahead of me. Then towards the edge of the cedars one last one from the cedars. I headed out and walked past where I was parked to check out one last spot here. Here I found one last one. Before my next area I made quick stop to check out a small spot. All I found here was a little fresh spike. Now in a different area I walked awhile before hitting an area with sheds. I love it when you can spot them out ahead at a distance. A was crossing a field not really expecting or looking for sheds. There was a lone deer (50 pounder) feeding the direction I had to go.I was trying to see how close I could get to her before she spooked. When I spotted an antler. I little doe was about 75yds behind the shed. After my pics of the last shed I started looking alittle better in the field. At the end of the firld were more woods and soon after starting here I spot this. It was getting late by now and almost dark.I walked the edge of a field and some woods back out. It was almost dark when I spotted my last shed for the day.The squirrels found this one too.I had to use a flash it was getting that late. All 14 for the day. My next hunt was back in the area where I found my last shed for the day at dark.Things started off fast finding a fast one then went slow for hours.I only found 5 today knowing there's alot of missing mates in this area. Another roll when this shed hit the ground it would have landed in the creek. Hours later almost forgetting what they look like I spot this. An old one in pretty bad shape. It wasn't hard seeing this one. Next I almost stepped on this one. And all 5 for the day.
