Speaking of Kathleen...

Here is a clip from the hunt where Kathleen, Catrina, Christina and I went to Carter Lake to fish for rainbows We spotted for bears all the way. After our time there Kathleen hiked out. We were in need of supplies. We were running low on food and needed gas for the boat. After much debate it was the only thing to do.

Not only did she hike off the mountain, but she hitchhiked from Moose Pass to Seward (35 miles) at night with a rifle. Luckily, she got a ride fairly quick. I met the guy who picked her up later in my trip. What a coincidence.

We were to rendezvous at 1pm the next afternoon at the trail head at Crystal Lake. I left a bit early to fish Carter again. I put myself in a spot to where I might see her up the trail and fished a bit. Coming back out on the trail to move up the lake some I saw her about a 1/2 mile out on a rise talking to a couple of hunters. I went to the lake to make a couple quick casts and by time I came out she was past me. Not realizing it I walked to where I could see people coming down the trail. It was the hunters. I turned around and hustled to catch up to her.

Here and now I apologize for not going to her on the rise. I didn't see the pack she had on her back. As were the hunters, I was in awe of this woman's moxie to hump up that 3 mile trail with over 60 pounds of gas and food on her back. She was hurting when I did catch up. She did all of that for the 5 of us in that magnificent cabin. I carried the pack the mile back to the boat at Crystal Lake and thought maybe I dropped one of my beans. I gained a whole lot of respect for what it takes to be an Alaskan.

Please take the time to watch the clip and you will see what I mean.

Heck of a video Mike....Did you guys ever see the sun when you were up there?

LOL in that part of the state? in the fall? ;)

friend of mine says...

To prepare for a hunt in alaska...

on the way home at night swing by the bank and pick up a fist full of hundred dollar bills....

then stand fully clothed in a cold shower and slowly rip those bills into little pieces, and watch them go down the drain... when you and your wife get comfortable watching that..... then your ready to hunt in AK.....

we either have a wonderfully fall.... or a nasty ugly wet one

while Mike and crew was soaking in the Seward sunshine....

we up north were sweltering in 70+ deg days trying to call moose during a pre rut warm spell... that later turned to snow and below zero temps by the 25th of sept....

Yes, Dan as a matter of fact there were a few absolutely gorgeous days. There is a ton of pictures in sunshine on the DVD that includes this clip.

Norm, too_pointer, and I were there three days before the girls hiked in. Everyday was sun filled around 60/65 and cold at night. The girls showed up and the weather got very spotty. The thing was that it didn't put a damper on anything we did.

When Kathleen left to hike out it was headed towards dark and the rain was starting to pick up. I got Catrina and lilmiss on the double quick to get back to the boat not knowing what it was going to do. My hats off to those two staying right with me as we did the mile in about 10 minutes. They were in it for the challenge. I didn't hear one complaint from them the whole time through the thick and thin.

As much as I appreciate the compliments on the video the gist of the thread was to show what Kathleen endured in this deal. She hiked out again two nights later as she had her kids at home and another affair to tend to. On a side note she had some issues with her health through the whole thing. She was experiencing pain in her abdomen the whole time we were in AK. Remember she hiked in with the girls carrying a pack almost as heavy as the one in the clip.

I agree mike.. she is one tough lady... she and i talked many hours about your guys trip up there.. she wanted it to be special thats for sure... and believe it or not... that mentality is more the norm here then the exception.

That is just what I wanted to point out, Vince. A tough place to do business you might say...:)
