ildrhntr
Well I have drawn a turkey tag in Randolph and Fulton Counties here in Illinois. I have been turkey hunting (turkey chasing) since 2001 and have gotten 1 turkey. If I don't get one this year I am going to save my money and sell me turkey gun. How can a bird with such a small brain be so hard to kill.

PA_Spike_King
''How can a bird with such a small brain be so hard to kill.'' I have been asking that question for oh maybe 27 or 28 years and I haven't figured it out as of yet. I guess I just get lucky every now and again. Keep after them and good luck. Tominator
I hear you man. I've been "hunting" them since 1999 and I've only killed 1. For me it's a numbers game, I'm at a disadvantage on a lot of fronts. Our season is only 4 weeks long, you can only hunt them until noon, there aren't huge numbers roaming around Ohio like other states, and most importantly, in a good year, I might get out 2 or 3 times, as it is, max number of days I could get out to hunt them would be 9. 9 days doesn't put the odds in my favor.:pop:
ruttinbuc
The national success rate for killing a longbeard is 17%.
dbHunterNY
hey i hear you! i've always noticed the difference between opening weekend and later in the season. birds become smart quick it seems. it's not impossible though! i'd keep your gun unless you really need the money. it's usually like trading in a car; you get little $ for a lot of gun. ildrhntr
well I have gone even a step farther. I have a friend who is a Turkeyholic and he talked me into appling for a tag in fulton county , Illinois to hunt with him. I just got my tag for 5th season in the mail and so now I will see if that helps my odds.........
Ethan Givan
Well good luck, hopefully it pays off for you. The national success rate for killing a longbeard is 17%. Really? I would have thought it would be higher than that. Its about 30% here in KY. It seems like some people have a hard time killing turkeys and it comes easier for others. The first one was the hardest for me. Ever since then I have had a good track record.

ildrhntr
Well I have been to and back from Randolph County. I saw more birds than I deserved. However they would not cooperate. They gobbled like crazy till 10 am then shut up. I only ended up being able to hunt one day but was fun. I did catch some darn nice bass on my buddies lake though.....so the trip was good......:camera:
dartonman
Remember the "commitment" gobble.....the ole timers know what Im talking about....you call, they gobble at you.....you wait for them to gobble a second time, to confirm they are interested....you do not call again till the second set of gobbles.....if you need any gear or advise, Id be glad to help buddy....pm me......al
