FalconerKitty
I've become really tired of the 'pink' stuff and trim in women's hunting gear. The most recent article on the 'Power of Pink' at www.womenhunters.com really shows how narrow minded the market is for women hunters. I don't wear pink, have always disliked the color avoided it and find that the ' make it pink' movement for females entering formerly male avocations is a huge turn off for me. Pink is for flowers, not in my wardrobe thank you. If there is pink on any of the hunting gear I look at, it goes back on the shelf. I will not buy it. In the fall issue of the International Hunter Education Association Journal (Vol 9, No 3, page 18, there is a fellow woman hunter (Marisa Lee) who also has the same distain for pink hunting stuff for women. Marketing people, listen to us. NOT ALL WOMEN ARE INFATUATED WITH THE COLOR PINK!!!!
Alisha
Personally, I LOVE pink so I think some of the items in that article are pretty neat, however I can't see myself taking anything pink into the woods when I go hunting. I think by using pink, they are attempting to interest girls/women who wouldn't care less about it if the items were just plain camo. It's just something to catch their eye and hopefully entice them to join in on the sport.
Turkeygirl
Yeah, I'm with ya there. Although I like the looks of the pink RT AP shirts...Anything else pink I don't care for, and when they make the camo and what not to "accentuate the female body"...Give me a break...Hunting is not about showing off the curves in the woods.... I laugh when I see the female hunters on TV hunting, all decked out in make-up....
RangerClay
I think you are overreacting a little. If you don't like pink, then you don't have to buy it or wear it but is it industry narrow mindedness? Absolutely not. Most women like pink and it is a great way for women distance themselves from a male oriented industry. Why else would the Susan G Komen foundation choose the pink ribbon as their symbol. If they suddenly put pink fringe on your favorite hunting clothes I could understand but right now women have choices in so many hunting related sports that have never existed. It gives women a sense of style. My daughter just loves the pink bow that I bought for her and really likes the pink fletchings I put on her arrows. She is only 9, but she knows that we are going to put on the Realtree and not pink when we go hunting. For right now she loves wearing her pink and is very proud when she wears shirts like these to school.
92xj
Pink is my favorite color. I wear it at least twice a week with matching ties at work. The chicks dig it! Now, I would not wear camo with pink it in, but I also dont think they make that in my size or in men's.
ruttinbuc
when they make the camo and what not to "accentuate the female body"...Give me a break...Hunting is not about showing off the curves in the woods.... Its not!!!!:bummed: When they talk of accentuating the female form I do believe they mean that it is made to fit women better than wearing men's clothing. Pink is my favorite color. I wear it at least twice a week with matching ties at work. The chicks dig it! Now, I would not wear camo with pink it in, but I also dont think they make that in my size or in men's. Benny a pink shirt or tie, looks good with a dark suit, but a pink jacket or slacks is going a bit over the top, no? :1eye:

I am on the hunt for a nice brown and pink suit though. Right now, I just wear my pink button up shirts with my fancy carhartts with a tie that matches both. coles
my girlfriend loves pink camo and camo with pink. She just bought herself pink camo marlin 925 22lr. She has been in this craze of wanting everything pink camo. Fine by me. Her hunting hat is realtree camo with pink accents and it was something she bought and picked out, not something i bought for her. Now she wants pink camo seat covers for her pickup and anything else she can find that is pink camo or camo with pink accents. She does not wear solid pink clothing though. she hates it. But i think that she likes pink camo is because it adds a feminine side to something that is generally considered masculine.

FalconerKitty
Marisa Lee mentions that she is tall, like me. 5'10" So, she and I have the same problem with women's clothes, most are proportioned too short. She mentions in the article that she was pleasantly surprised when one brand (I don't remember which one) was long enough for her. Talls have much fewer choices in clothing. Go to any store, you will see petite and large sizes, but a tall section? I've not seen one yet. So, we end up buying men's clothing. When someone puts out a new line of women's hunting clothes, if they don't offer tall sizing, I just don't shop there. I say don't offer EVERYTHING for females with pink. Have a percentage in pink. I just have never been a 'girly girl' and never was attracted to the frilly stuff that my younger sister loved. I also strongly feel that guns should look like guns not like kids toys. The pink guns I feel is a really, really bad idea. When I first saw a pink .22 last year for little girls, I was appalled I felt that this is a cheap shot to get females interested. Wobbly_Alaska
some girls like pink camo.... A LOT! my 12 yr old before ( last x mas) here she is today with the .270 win and dura coat job she picked out

When I first saw a pink .22 last year for little girls, I was appalled I felt that this is a cheap shot to get females interested. I feel that you are being very narrow minded on the whole pink gun subject JHMO. I showed my girlfriend this and it made her lip quiver because she was so mad. Just because someone buys a pink gun for their daughter or some other situation doesnt mean that its viewed as a toy. Guns with pink stocks or pink camo are made so that women get into the sport. If a woman sees a pink gun, it appeals more to them, and they are more likely to get into the sport. And if a dad or boyfriend is buying a pink gun, that means they care about teaching their daughter, wife, or girlfriend about shooting which also entails SAFETY!!!!!!!! Just because its pink doesnt mean its a toy. Some girls feel the same way about pink as guys do about camo. Do you feel that it was a cheap shot to make the same little cricket 22 for kids with a camo stock? It appeals to little boys, just as much as it does to a little girl looking at the little cricket with the pink stock. Its just a marketing strategy and there is nothing wrong with that. If you dont want a pink gun or pink clothing, then so be it, but dont knock it when it is helping the outdoors minority (WOMEN!) get into the sport, enjoy it, and passing it on. This also shows that the hunting and firearms industry is noticing that women enjoy the sport. The color of your gun does not affect the way you shoot. PINK!------> :gunsmilie: <------PINK! Turkeygirl
I actually think pink guns/bows are a good way to try and get more women involved in the outdoors. I myself would not own one but that doesn't mean it isn't a great idea. It's a personal choice.

FalconerKitty
Making it pink did not get me interested in the outdoors. It was the appeal of the outdoors itself. The females who I saw had 'pink' everywhere in their lives were clueless, helpless ninnys, that I avoided (and still do) like the plaque. I like to go fishing, I did not hunt until I was a teenager. Became a falconer when I was a teen. I had decided that I was NOT going to be a helpless female. I learned how to use guns properly from an ex-marine sniper, I taught myself how to drive a standard transmission, use mirrors for backing up my dads 1971 4x4 1 ton Dodge truck. Learned to change a tire, change oil and lube the chassis in my own vehicles, check fluids. Not be a female victim of unscrupulous car repair shops. (They had better watch our for me there, I'm from 3 generations of auto mechanics) Use tools properly, Learn the basics of mechanical systems, such as heating and air conditioning, so I know what they are explaining to me when repairs are done. And definately NOT be afraid of bugs, spiders, mice, snakes, etc. Some things I'm limited because I'm simply not strong enough. Yet, I still do domestic things. I am a good cook, and enjoy sewing.
