coles
I think im going to put in for moose again this year. I put in a few years ago but wasnt surprised when i didnt get drawn. Dead line is May 1st i believe so i have alot of homework to do before then. I dont know why but my lastest obcession is anything moose hunting. Some day I will put one on the ground whether it be in MT or Canada/Alaska. Guess I should probably start working out right now to get in shape! Anyone know of any areas in MT that have decent odds of drawing. I dont care if its a bull or cow. Just as long as its black, has long legs, and ugly! elkoholic
I do not believe there is an easy to draw moose tag in Montana. I have been applying every year for the past 25+ seasons and have yet to draw. There is an elderly lady from Eureka who drew a tag last year after applying for over 40 years. She did shoot a nice bull so maybe the wait was worth it. Personally, the area north of Columbia Falls would be my choice for a big bull. Also, west of Kalispell, around Ashley Lake, is another prime spot along with my home turf around Lake Koocanusa. A hunt for a big Yukon bull has always been a dream of mine and with money and logistics not in my favor, it will probably never be more than a dream. Still will be putting in for a Montana tag every year and buy a few super tag chances but I would be amazed to actually draw a tag. Good luck in the drawing. coles
My dad, grandpa, and uncle made a trip down to around Dillon when i was going to school there and we went up past the ski area there and went elk hunting. I saw a MONSTER bull down there and thats what made me put in for moose a while back. He had to of been at least 50"
whitetailtrax
Hey Coles - you really need to start putting in every year if you can afford to tie up the money until you get your refund back. Start building up your bonus points!! FWP is talking about squaring your bonus points for the drawing....so if you have 7 bonus points, you will actually have 49 chances in the drawing, 10 bonus points = 100 chances and so on. This will really start to favor those people who have been putting in every year but haven't been lucky enough to draw. I haven't heard if this has been officially adopted by the commission, but I know they are looking into it. I will be able to put in for moose again this year after shooting one back in 2002 over south of Libby. Great fun hunting those beasts! I did not kill a monster, but had my 8 year old son with me and he actually spotted the bull. Any of the districts in the NW corner are pretty good bets for a big bull and some districts in the extreme SW are good. Odds are bad everywhere!!!!! Good luck in the draw!
