Shaun_300
Haven't been on here too much the past couple nights. Last night I got home and started taking the engine out of my truck to replace it with an engine with 2 more cylinders and triple the horsepower.:whip: Last night I took the whole front end out of my truck, looked similar to the first pic I'll show you. Tonight I got home and went at it hard and got the engine and transmission out! It was weird working under it on a creeper, so used to a hoist. Anyways, started at it around 6:30 and at 10:00 I had the engine out. Not too bad for not having a hoist. First time I ever took the engine out with the transmission still attached too. Here's a pic I took right before I pulled it, chain hooked up ready to go. Then mom came out for a bit to watch. She took a few pics of me unbolting a few things I couldn't get at until I pulled it forward a bit... She's out!! Even managed to get grease on my face too. Tomorrow I'll separate the engine and transmission, unbolt the clutch and pressure plate etc, then throw the 4.3 in the back shed and get the Vette motor ready to go in. Shaun_300
2005 LS6 out of a CTS-V that dropped a valve. I rebuilt it from a bare block to complete engine. Same engines in the 2001-2004 Corvette Z06's. Regular vettes came with LS1's, An LS6 is an LS1 with different heads, pistons and cam. The LS1 is 350hp, LS6 is 405hp. I have an aftermarket cam and custom tune so that puts me at 485-490hp, then I have a turbo to bolt on, after that's on it'll be at least 600hp. wtnhunt
Hmmm, thinking you may have just voided your trucks warranty there Shaun. lol. Is the tranny that is in it going to be able to handle that much power or are you changing it too? Have fun with it when you get it done, but be careful. Shaun_300
William, the truck is a 2000 with 250,000km on the clock, no more warranty left on it. Yeah it'll be hard on fuel if I keep my foot into it. But cruising and driving easy I can guarantee it's gonna get better gas mileage than my 4.3L. Bet it'll get close to 30mpg on the highway. The tranny will hold pretty good I think. The rear end is so light it'll just break the tires loose before it has enough stress to break the tranny. Plus it's a 5-speed manual, nothing but gears. Automatics will not hold that much power unless they're really beefed up. If it does go, I'll be putting in a T-56 out of a Camaro in, with 4:56 gears in the rear end. Should have used some of these.:D:D You gotta be planning for some tires too eh Shaun. I know how easy my old mustang used to break the tires loose, and it was nowhere near 600 ponies under the hood. Looking forward to more pics and updates. Had a buddy who had a 327 vette motor in a old classic pickup, his truck ran quarters almost as fast as my mustang. PA_Spike_King
Great update there Shaun, I have a question, are you going to have to upgrade the front end to handle the weight of a V-8 versus the 4.3L.

Hey, that's my line! A lot of work Shaun, but it well be well worth the effort when its done! Besides that is what you know and do. That is a good thing. The mileage will surprise a lot of people. Those vette motors do well. As a matter of fact Randy O drove his vette to Wyoming and got 27 miles to the gallon with it.

The V8 is 35lbs lighter than the V6! V6 is all cast iron, V8 is all aluminum.

Awesome! The new Camaro's are awesome, I just love them. We have a black SS 2 in the showroom, 6.2L 6-speed manual. If I had $43,000 in my pocket I'd buy it in a second.
