dartonman
I just want to pass on one thing that alot of people just starting out in turkey hunting, dont know....the snood, or worm like flesh hanging from the gobblers face is a great sign to know "how" or if you have been busted...When a gobbler is sexually aroused, the snood will hang off his face and become long....but if you see this "snood" draw up quickly back into a gobblers head, and becomes a small bump, (watch some videos, esp. bowhunting) this is the best time to get the gun going, or the arrow flying....this means the bird is cautious, and will be moving on.......now, if any other tips can help our forum members, please submit them now........good luck gang...............al
redbeard
Re: **Watch the SNOOD**and other handy tips PLEASE: Good tip, also look for the whitish head. White means suspicison, while the head in red/white/blue means he's hot

MrWiggely
Re: **Watch the SNOOD**and other handy tips PLEASE: Don't call too much. We all love to hear the gobbler gobble, but calling too much makes the bird think you are so hot, that you should be going to him. Ive made the mistake a thousand times myself. 13littleones
Re: **Watch the SNOOD**and other handy tips PLEASE: If you hunt on public land and you have a bird on the roost, 1/2 hour later a few other people show up and start calling....... just leave the area and find another bird... I feel more comfortable 1 or even 2 miles back in the woods on public land.... I feel the more serious hunters are back there and you are less likely to run into problems... HeviShot
Re: **Watch the SNOOD**and other handy tips PLEASE: Try not to shoot the goobler in strut. Wait until he looks around you will have a better shot at the vital head area.
Turkeygirl
Re: **Watch the SNOOD**and other handy tips PLEASE: Scout early! I never do that enough. Scouting allows you to locate the turkeys and where they are relatively hanging out.
Rhino
Re: **Watch the SNOOD**and other handy tips PLEASE: When working a gobbler I always have my shotgun on top of my knee. I use a knee pad that helps to hold it there. (I never can remember who makes it.) As a gobbler starts closing in I keep my shotgun pointed in the direction where I'm hearing him. By doing this your gun is up and you will minimize the amount of movement you have to make to zero in on him when he shows up.
LifeNRA
Re: **Watch the SNOOD**and other handy tips PLEASE: [ QUOTE ] I use a knee pad that helps to hold it there. (I never can remember who makes it.) [/ QUOTE ] H.S. Strut makes a knee pad for the gun to sit on, in Realtree Hardwoods Green too! Practice your calling before your in the turkey woods, make sure they are all ready for the days hunt. Chalking the box or roughing up the pots, the night before! Oh yeah sit still!!!!! Guest beardsNspurs
Re: **Watch the SNOOD**and other handy tips PLEASE: If he comes in acting one way.....and gets there throwin his head up, lookin around...or basically doin things differently than he did when he was approaching.....drop the hammer on him. Anything that makes him act different is an indicator that he thinks all isn't right. Unless of course he begins to get too friendly with your decoy.....then sit back and watch the show!
