bambeklr
I wasnt able to hunt much this year compared to my usual seasons due to daycare issues. I was upset about it but I did spend plenty of time with my little boy. I now have him running around with deer antlers in the house, pointing at my deer heads and saying deer!!! Anyway, I still had a great year. The first of september starts our delaware archery season. I was getting pic's of some good deer on trail camera. Naturally I was gonna be in my tree on september 1st as long as trhe wind was good. Well it was good and shortly after 5pm here he came. He just wouldnt step out from under that darn holly limb!!! Here is a pic of him standing there. I just couldnt get a shot. I was only 13 yards away. He finally left and my heart sank!! Then in november I ended up with this 9 point. He scored close to 150 inches and was 209lbs dressed. i was just getting off work at 8 am. I got changed at my truck and walked to my ground blind on my hidden field to sit until mid-day. I got to my blind and went to unzip it. Then I heard crashing and looked up to see this buck chasing a doe. I had only a split second to get ready. I took the shot as he ran past me. Bingo!! He went another 40 yards and piled up!!! A few days later we had a front coming through. I was not going to miss that. I headed back out. I got to my blind on my georgetown lease at about 2:45 pm. It was raining. I set up all of my things and the next thing you know I was looking out the window of a wide buck with long brow tines. I took the shot as he was going into the trees at 80 yards. No blood at all. After 90 yards of following kicked up pine needles. There he was. 22 inches inside and 7 inch brow tines. He was 175 lbs dressed. I killed quite a few deer before and after these to bucks above. I even killed a spike sika stag in virginia. I returned to delaware and killed a few doe's in the late season. I asked my buddy if I could go to his place in sharptown maryland and go bow hunnting. I figured it would be nice to get a late season doe with my bow. I was in for a suprise. I was setup only 100 yards from the nanticoke river. I had found a small briar thicket that had 5 trails all crossing within 30 yards of my tree. I called my buddy and let him know that if I got a deer I would need help. I had been having trouble with my shoulder. About 45 minutes into the hunt I heard the leaves rustleing around. Then I saw legs coming down the trail. When they passed me they would be within 18 yards. I picked the biggest doe out of the 8. Then I saw antlers coming. It looked to be a buck close to P&Y. I drew my bow and let it fly. I heard the arrow connect. Not long after I heard the deer crash. I made a phone call. I got all my stuff ready and waited for my buddy to show up. About 30 minutes from dark I heard footsteps coming. I stood up to look for my friend. Then I saw a big doe walking my way. I got my bow off the hanger and drew back to take aim. I let it fly and smoked the big doe. All the sudden i hear my buddy yell " Thats crazy " He scared the crap out of me. I shot the doe at 15 yards and my buddy was watching me draw and shoot not 30 yards away. H thaught I was just messing with him. It was a great night. A late season double with my bow!! bambeklr
Thanks for the comments. I do have a few good spots. I am very fortunate to be able to hunt as much as I do usually. I work 12x8 shift so I can hunt every evening. I also have a job that allows me to get plenty of vacation days!! I have been very lucky. This is a small state. Well the second smallest to be exact. If you look at the first trailcam pic I posted you will see a wide buck with nice browtines. He wasnt fully developed but I am almost posotive that I killed him in november. You can see for yourself. Looks like him to me. Also the big deer in velvet that I have pic's of was also killed in january by my best friend. It to was on our lease in georgetown. We hunt 260 acres there and only 6 guys. Between us all there were 4 wallhangers killed this year from that one peice alone. I guess 4 out of 6 isnt bad.
