Friend --

I'm writing to you on a great day for America.

This morning, I gathered with members of Congress, my administration, and hardworking volunteers from every part of the country to sign comprehensive health care reform into law. Thanks to the immeasurable efforts of so many, the dream of reform is now a reality.

The bill I just signed puts Americans in charge of our own health care by enacting three key changes:

It establishes the toughest patient protections in history.

It guarantees all Americans affordable health insurance options, extending coverage to 32 million who are currently uninsured.

And it reduces the cost of care -- cutting over 1 trillion dollars from the federal deficit over the next two decades.

To ensure a successful, stable transition, many of these changes will phase into full effect over the next several years.

But for millions of Americans, many of the benefits of reform will begin this year -- some even taking effect this afternoon. Here are just a few examples:

Small businesses will receive significant tax cuts, this year, to help them afford health coverage for all their employees.

Seniors will receive a rebate to reduce drug costs not yet covered under Medicare.

Young people will be allowed coverage under their parents' plan until the age of 26.

Early retirees will receive help to reduce premium costs.

Children will be protected against discrimination on the basis of medical history.

Uninsured Americans with pre-existing conditions can join a special high-risk pool to get the coverage they need, starting in just 90 days.

Insured Americans will be protected from seeing their insurance revoked when they get sick, or facing restrictive annual limits on the care they receive.

All Americans will benefit from significant new investments to train primary care doctors, nurses, and public health professionals, and the creation of state-level consumer assistance programs to help all patients understand and defend our new rights.

As I've said many times, and as I know to be true, this astounding victory could not have been achieved without your tireless efforts.

So as we celebrate this great day, I want to invite you to add your name where it belongs: alongside mine as a co-signer of this historic legislation. Organizing for America will record the names of co-signers as a permanent commemoration of those who came together to make this moment possible -- all of you who refused to give up until the dream of many generations for affordable, quality care for all Americans was finally fulfilled.

So, if you haven't yet, please add your name as a proud health care reform co-signer today!

Please accept my thanks for your voice, for your courage, and for your indispensable partnership in the great work of creating change.

History, and I, are in your debt.

President Barack Obama

How about posting something more on this than a cut and paste crazylegz. Debate is good when there is topic to debate, a cut and paste really serves no purpose in itself in the manner in which this is posted.

How about telling us how this will be paid for and by who. How about going more into depth on the fines that will be imposed on those healthy people who do not buy into the plan when they are forced to or else.

Do you really have faith in this governments control over such a serious thing as health care, the same government that overindulges and wastes well beyond the comprehension of most folks, this same government that mismanages and misappropriates our great grandchildrens futures sending this country spiralling into unimaginable debt.

Maybe you don't have any kids and never intend to and so maybe nothing matters to you but free healthcare at this moment in time. How about when you finish school and get a job, do you realize taxes to pay for this type social healthcare will affect you one way or another. Even if you do not pay for it directly, someone will, that might mean your employer cannot afford to pay you as much. Get the picture yet?

Are you aware?

From what I am hearing, people with student loans may be subject to helping in supporting paying for the funding for this. This may hit home with you Lance and may be something you want to check into if you have any student loans. Senator Lamar Alexander was interviewed a short while ago and he said that was one of many things in this bill that was not right.

Did your friend tell you this too?

As one with student loans I'm curious to find out what exactly they are planning to do. I briefly caught something on the news last night but it didn't get specific. Anyone know any info on this?

I find it ridiculous that they think they can predict how much this "reform" is going reduce the deficit over 2 decades. Which one of them has the crystal ball? So much for not raising taxes on the middle class.

How come you guys all knock the federal government, but yet say they're doing a great job with the Iraq conflict? You guys can't pick and choose what to support and what to knock just to suit your needs.

Don't recall myself saying our government was doing a great job with the Iraq conflict.

If the mods think "fugitive" is the former crazylegs, why is he not banned yet?

I know it is the same person Corey as do other mods, and Lance has not denied it. Banning has been discussed by some mods and I am not at liberty to say at this point in the open forums why and when.

well i can with a clear conscience. we've seen very consistent praise here for all of our military. it's one of the constitutional uses of our tax dollars and our military is doing a fine job.

with that said, even our military is outrageous with their spending platform.

finally, i cannot think of another thing our goverment is doing even CLOSE to good. they have a consistant performance rating of failure. rather than go into details, it will be much easier for you to tell us what goverment program is doing well? or adaquate. or even close to what it promised. or on budget. anything positive. i just cannot find anything, so i will simply complain until it's corrected.
