carbonhunter
I may be wrong but the normal 870 is only for 2 3/4 inch shells while the SM is chambered for all the 12 guage shells. That and the fact that one is camo stock and the other has a matte finish and satin wood.
carbonhunter
Re: 870 after looking a little better the differance is the finish and the fact that the 870 express will shoot up to 3" shells, while the sps sm will handle all the way up to 3 1/2" shells, and comes with a sling

AJ
Re: 870 The SPS stands for Special Purpose Synthetic. The Express Super Mag will do anything the SPS will and cost less. The only real differences are the finish and occasionally the stock material. Triggers, barrels, and other parts will interchange between the two, as long as you compare the standard SPS vs standard Express and Super Mag against Super Mag.
