Time to fess up, how often do you change your oil?

Recommended Posts

Every 4500 miles and the key word is "I" change the oil. I don't trust the idiots at wal mart or jiffy lube to do it for $6 an hour. I like to do my own becuase when I'm underneath the car i know what is going on with it. I don't all the sudden realize that an axle seal is leaking or a u joint going out. I religiously used Mobil 1 Clean 5K and a Fram extreme guard filter. Truck has almost 240,000 on it and runs like a top.

Old truck I did every 3k and used the regular fram/ Pennz and it made it almost 300,000 before the motor went.

I'm with you on that. I have a distrust of about anyone under my truck. I just traded one with 260k and got 250 on my silverado. Rear end is whining and prob need wheel bearings from all the mud it stays in, but the engine is still strong.

Every 5,000 miles as per manufacturer recommendation. Used to do it myself but now let the local shop do it. To all the people who change their own oil; How are you disposing of the old oil?

I collect it in 5gal pails (tractor hyd oil buckets) and take it to work and dump it into a holding tank where a guy comes by and pays cash for it twice a month. Have also taken it to Autozone where they will gladly take it and do the same.

Burned oil has a few uses around a farm, collect it in 5 gallon buckets. There are a few places that will gladly take it too.
