ruttinbuc
I went for and MRI on my RTC today. Needless to say, it didn't go very well. The position of my arm brought out the pain big time. The arm was having muscle spasms and the results were too blurred. Never did finish. Have to go back again on Tuesday. This time with meds to hopefully keep the pain down. Seems like you need to be dead to get a good image out of an MRI machine.
The_Kat
Ugh...I know just what you mean. They suck big time. Had to have on done when I had my 4-wheeler accident and broke my back. No fun at all.

Doe-ee
You poor thing. That sounds awful. I've always thought of MRI's as being painless. Hope tuesday brings better results for you.
buckee
I hate them things too. You can't move, and you can't breath. I hope the next one goes a lot smoother Mike.

Canuck2
That's a bummer, Mike. It would be nice if all this modern technology could actually be useful. I hope the next round is more successful. When I had my shoulders done, I actually fell asleep in the chamber. Well, you know how you sometimes jerk just when getting into a good sleep? I did that and ruined the whole thing. Had to start over.
redkneck
Ive been fortunate to have never had one, but my mother-in-law has had similar experiences. Hope the meds help bud, I hear valium works good for MRI's too!
woolybear
Had one for my back years ago. I swear they have a temperature control setting on that thing to test your tolerane to heat. If that's not enough they release the bugs- felt like I had ant's crawling into every orfice but dared not to flinch. The final straw was a Micheal Jackson song that came through my headset. More like a torture chamber. Had to reschedule another the following week and fell asleep in it. Hope the next one goes better for ya Mike. ruttinbuc
Thanks for the support everyone. None of this stuff is any fun the older you get. I just hope whatever the problem might be can be treated with the least amount of complications. It is nothing compared to the medical struggles a lot of you have gone through, but it comes at a bad time.
Hunt or be Hunted
I had one 2 years ago on my knee, And it was not to bad. Hope it goes better next time Mike.
wtnhunt
Nope, those scans are not much fun at all. Hope it goes better for you with the pain meds Mike.
Newarcher
I had one for my RC and it was misery. Mine had these special glasses you put on and it shows you a movie.....I watched Sweet home Alabama with sweet home Reese! The problem was that the way they make sure you fit is with a hula hoop. If it fits over your shoulders you will be okay. Well, I got on my knees so the little lady working there could get it over my head! It stopped on about the last 1/2 " of each shoulder. She said "well, we can reschedule you to drive out to Atlanta for the open or hog tie you (she wasn't kidding) and stuff you into this sausage maker. Since they had already shot me with the contrast, I said "DO IT". My left shoulder (the shoulder in question) had to be in a certain spot and the rest of my had to be wrapped, folded, and held in place by some weird twisted towel thing this chick did. I could see her wearing leather and cracking a whip after hours if you get my drift! Meanwhile, I was trying to keep from flashing the people in the control room thanks to that napkin sized gown the gave me that barely covers you when laying straight.....no help when twisted up like a pretzel! The control room was at my feet looking at me! Never again unless it's open. New

Adjam5
Wow Mike...sorry to hear that test put ya in pain. Hope they get it all worked out for ya. Sometimes they sedate you for the MRI's. Perhaps that is a option. Get well soon bud.

ruttinbuc
Well, the MRI went a lot better this time as far as them being able to get a reading on it. To say the least the meds they gave me were not enough to keep the the devil from trying to get out of my shoulder. I was hoping I would pass out from the pain. No such luck. I can't remember quite an ordeal. The messed up part about the whole thing is that there was another machine in Allentown that scanned faster and would have had me in the tube for half of the time.... We'll see what the problem is tomorrow morning when I go back and see the doctor. I don't ask for a whole lot around here, but if you can keep me in your thoughts I would really appreciate it. If it means anything the thoughts of my friends here during the scan helped me get through it...Thank you all
Doe-ee
You certainly have my prayers. I hope the test reveals exactly what's up and leads to you to a pain free, full recovery.
wtnhunt
Yep, praying for you here too Mike. Hope this second scan reveals the problem. Hope they can get the shoulder straightened out for without needing surgery, but at least with getting things taken care of now you should have plenty of time for recovery before this fall. ruttinbuc
Thank you for the thoughts and prayers. The good news is that I will not need surgery. Although I do have some small tears in the rotator cuff the problem is the result of inflammation, scarring, thickening, and shrinkage of the capsule that surrounds the shoulder joint. The medical term is called adhesive capsulitis. It is better known as "frozen shoulder". It looks like I'll be going to physical therapy 3 times a week to try and get my range of motion back. I got a shot to to start the process and help with the inflammation. Looks like a bit of a painful road ahead to back to some sense of normal.
