I can hardly wait:

In 1968 I was issued a survival knife during my first year with the Seabees. It served me well, and I was fortunate enough to still have it after my discharge. I used it for years, and it was the best skinning and gutting knife I have ever had. One morning, several years ago, I awoke to find that my dear wife had soaked it in the sink overnight. The leather handle was ruined and the knife went into a drawer for several years. Sometimes my wife or the kids would take it out to use it for a hammer, or a pry bar, but it seldom got used for its original purpose.

Well, it is coming out of retirement.

These are the "before" shots.

I mailed it off today to our very talented "hammerforged" to see what he can do about demilitarizing it, or civilianizing it back into a workable knife.

I can hardly wait to post the "after" photos.

I will be like a kid waiting for Christmas.

Just got it back today and couldn't be happier with the results.

I really like the de-militarized/civilianized version. There is enough of the old personality left to recognize an old friend.

Again, another beautiful job by hammerforged. Thanks again Ross
