SchuLace
I was wondering what everyone here uses for a rangefinder or thoughts on what I should get. I am starting bowhunting this fall and my distance judging isn't great. I am going to try to work on getting better at it but I would like a rangefinder just in case. I would also like to use it for rifle season. My budget is around $300.

joeaveragehunter
If it only needs to be accurate out to 80 yards, I got a bushnell ($125). It works outstanding to 100 yards, then its a crapshoot. If you will use it for rifle hunting, you may want to invest in a better model. RangerClay
I have the Nikon 440 and I really like it. If I was shopping for a new rangefinder right now, this is what I would buy. http://www.opticsplanet.net/nikon-prostaff-550-laser-rangefinders.html
wtnhunt
Bushnell model we have(compact 800) works, but it is more geared towards medium ranging, it does not range under 16 yards. Really no complaints on the bushnell rangefinder. Have seen a few complaints about the nikon's and their handling of customer service. A fan of nikon scopes, but no first hand experience with their rangefinders. In your price range, likely I would stick with bushnell, nikon, or leupold. Lot of options that should work well for your needs in your price range. May even consider this cabelas brand rangefinder made by bushnell http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?type=product&cmCat=Related_IPL_712995&id=0057434713032a
GWSmith
Save some money and get a Bushnell(under $200). I had one that said right on the packaging that it would not range anything at short distances but it consistently got accurate readings as low as 9 yards! Try to find one thats going to fit into your chest pocket of whatever your wearing so you can put it away without having to take your eyes off of the game;)

Mine went belly up about 3 months out of warranty. Nikon said they'd repair it for $30 shy of buying a new one. I bought a Bushnell and it has served me well for over 3 years now. For the money, Bushnell is just fine.
