TN Bucknasty
Here's my first effort at a bobcat. I must say that this was especially tough since it was only a kitten. The fact that it was shot 3 times with a 300 win. magnum didn't help either. I made the base out of some barnwood, goldfish gravel, wood duck feathers, and sage grass.

Yep lots of sewing and this little guy's hide was paper thin. I didn't think it turned out too badly for my first. There are some things that I know to do differently now. I wasn't satisfied with it, but everyone who's seen it say's they can't see anything wrong with it. A suggestion for all- if you enjoy looking at mounts, never go into taxidermy. It'll ruin you. For instance- You'll never look at the horns on a deer mount again.

wtnhunt
We get a few pics of bobcats on trail cams, so got a little bit of reference as to how I think they should look when they are alive. Seen a few cats mounted that looked much the same as yours. It may just be me, but the head/neck looks disproportionate, may be because it is a kitten. Also noticed the eyes not looking right. Seen several mounts of cats where the eyes did not look quite right, so assuming that is an area that requires some practice or time to get right. Not trying to pick your work apart, from what you have posted of your mounts looks like you do really nice work, just what I noticed on this particular mount. Took a bobcat to a new to us taxidermist in January, looking forward to seeing how it turns out. Should get it back in August.

I don't know about the neck part, but I agree about the eyes. I didn't like the way they looked so I did some more research. No offense taken by the way. I personally hate it now that I've done a few more. I also hate my first deer mount because I know all the ways I messed up. I told him I wanted some critters to practice on so he brought it to me. It was about the toughest practice someone could ask for.
TN Bucknasty
Here are three pictures. The first shows how I do my eyes now. I've used this as a model on my last few. The second is the picture I used as a reference for mounting the kitten. The third is a picture I use for reference now. Like I said, seen a few that looked very similar to yours in outdoor stores in this area, may just be the way it is posed. Those in the post just above mine here look really good. woodshed
I think it's great that you are looking for feedback. I'm a woodworker and like to make furniture. You said you've done a few more and you like them more. The thing that I've learned from making my furniture, is that I actually like looking at my early pieces. When I can see my mistakes and flaws, which used to drive me CRAZY, I actually appreciate them now. I love being able to see my work progress through the years and get better from one to the another. I can point out to people, much like you are, the flaws then show them my better work and teach them the differences on how to critique furniture better. I usually find, as you have, most people have no clue! I can now look back at those pieces and laugh at my stupid mistakes. It really makes it more fun instead of frustrating. Nice work and keep the learning curve going. You are doing a good job!!
