Griz
On my 2002 Z71 the fuel pump went out and I had a new one put in. Now the pump is really loud... I was thinking maybe if I change the Fuel Filter it would cure it... Nope... It's still loud... Any ideas on what a guy can do... Thanks... Griz... Wobbly_Alaska
you put in an aftermarket pump? napa, carquest? that kind or from the dealer... ONLY ever buy from the dealer. ii have had customers insist on the lower$$$$$$ ones and put them in two or three times before we put in a good one.. Griz
Not sure what kind of pump it is... Our local mechanic is the one that did the job... I do know that he generally buys most of his stuff through the dealers...

Shawn
I worked in a gm dealership parts department for 5 years. we would give people the choice of aftermarket pump also because of the price difference. they were all louder. i do recall one instance though 3 gm pumps were put in the same vehicle before it was quiet again. wtnhunt
hutchies said: Yep that's pretty common Yep. My 98 has the factory pump still and it whines a bit. We got a round of bad gas somewhere and had problems with fuel filters in both the truck and our gmc yukon, they whined a lot worse and acted up, changed the fuel filters in both and the problems went away and whine got better on my truck, but still can hear it. Try to change the fuel filters occasionally(15-20,000 miles), less restriction, less additional work on the pump. Think fram suggests changing them every 10,000. slughunter
I just put a new pump in my 92 silverado. I can hear it buzzing when its on. To me its just normal, I kinda like it cause it shows me its working strong. -shane
hunterwebb
a oem pump should not make noise aftermarket dont last as long as a oem pump and they make noise what make a pump go bad is running low of fuel all the time keep your tank 1/4 are more fuel cool the pump under 1/4 tank and pump get hot hot not good
Goinghuntin
Put a new pump in our old 88 Chevy a while back, and there's no extra noise that I've noticed. Nathan
Shaun_300
It all depends on the pump really. You can put one GM one in one truck and it's quiet as a mouse, the next new one is loud. They have a bit of an attitude. I wouldn't worry about it Dale, unless it's REAL loud. If it's a GM part it'll have a parts warranty on it if it fails.
