Re: muzzleloader scope suggestions

Depends on what gun you buy and your hunting conditions. If you get a top dollar gun and are planning on shooting anything beyond 150 yards then I would get a decent 3x9. If your hunting in the woods with shots 75 yards or less or shooting a cheap gun then I would go with open sights or a red dot. JMO

Re: muzzleloader scope suggestions

nikon bushnell make soem nice scopes for decent money that will work especially for blackpowder. i am using a bsa scope and it's okay but today i helped a guy shoot his in and he had a kahles 2.5x 7x32 and it was world of difference and i could seen no problems at all so i know i need to go with a much better scope on my blackpowder and by next season i will definately have a much better scope for the ml

if you can afford it i would say go for the best you can you afford it will definately make a difference in your accuracy as well as being able to see what is out there

Re: muzzleloader scope suggestions

I took an old 3-9x40 tasco off my old .22 when I started muzzleloading. It works OK but I'm also wanting a better scope soon. Its to the point where its difficult to adjust the magnification and I'm losing my confidence in it because it feels like its gonna fall apart when I adjust it. I bought a 2.8-10x44 simmons aetec when I bought my Remington 700 7mm and I absolutely love it. I did the research and to me it seemed like the best deal for the money. I may stick with an aetec for my muzzleloader also. But, I would also like to look at the new Sightrons to see what they have to offer and in what price range. Good luck making your decision. I'd buy the best that you can comfortably afford. Take care, Greg

Re: muzzleloader scope suggestions

I'd invest in something good.

Like a previous poster, when I got my first muzzleloader, I pulled my 3-9x32 Simmons off my 22 for use on the new smoke pole. It has been accurate enough, but I am loosing confidence in it. It needs to be re-zeroes after a lot of shooting (that could be the rings too).

This will be the last year using it. I'd buy a new one this year, but I've already spent WAY over my hunting budget for the year. If I buy one more thing, my wife will skin me and take MY head to the taxidermist. shocked.gif

Next year a new Nikon shotgun scope will adorn my muzzleloader.

Re: muzzleloader scope suggestions

Call me crazy. Last night I mentioned something to my wife about buying a new scope for my muzzleloader. My wife says "do you wanna get it now?". I declined. I just had gotten my sight zeroed a few days ago and would have to really rush to get the scope, get it sighted in and hopefully be able to do it with the precision rifle bullets I have left. I betcha I mention it a lot earlier next year, lol. Or, I might buy one on sale after rifle season. Thats what I did with my Simmons Aetec. I think I saved something like 40 bucks on it and its an awesome scope. What a good wife. Take care, Greg

Re: muzzleloader scope suggestions

i have learned something very important this season and that is buy a good scope and not some cheapo scope as it can hurt you in the end. i have a bsa on it now but next season i will have another scope worth looking at. either a good nikon or a bushnell and one with 90 plus light transmission. low light conditions make it very smart to have a good scope on any gun you won and for years i just threw a scope on and then went my merry way but the eyes aren't as sharp as they used to be and every little bit helps. it dang sure won't hurt you
