jcwa
Yesterday I was sitting at the computer reading threads on the forum and i hear something moving around and scraching noices in the attic. So i think I have a mouse in the attic. Later on, I go to the store and get some mouse/rat poision to put up in the attic to kill the mouse. Later that evening I let the attic ladder down and climb up into the attic and work my way over to the area i heard the sounds. Then I see something bigger than a mouse run over to an old exhaust duct and climbs in. So I'm thinking a big rat is up here. So if I put the poison up here the whole house is going to stink when it dies. I pick up the duct and drop it to get it out of the pipe, then all of a sudden it comes flying out of the pipe jumps on my leg :jaw: (I yell a few choice words) then it jumps on a rafter support and looks at me and runs off to hide. Well it wasn't a rat, I have a squirrel living in the attic. I don't want to poison the squirrel, so what would you guy use to bait the squirrel in to a live trap? Right now I have peanut butter in the trap but i haven't caught it yet.

camoman1
I would think most kinds of 'snacks' would work. You may want to do a little homework on the squirrel before you catch him...if you can stand him being up there for another day. See if you can see him sneaking in or out, that way you know where he is getting in and can fix that so his little buddies dont make it in too...if they arent already. Diamond Archer 01
Just bird seed would work good. I have six squirrels in my backyard that love to eat our bird seed.
wtnhunt
Gotta agree with the corn. Might even try the cobbed corn squirel feed they sell at stores. Also agree with watching if at all possible to see where it is getting in. Squirrels can do a good bit of damage, they seem to like chewing wire too. Tominator
I would try baiting him with some .177 Gamo pellets.

redkneck
The problem with the pellet rifle is you still run the risk of him getting shot and running into a place where you can't retrieve him. I'd bait him a day or two and then lay out some sticky traps for him or use a live trap. Had the same thing happen at the deer camp over the winter with a whole family in the walls at night. I popped 2 one afternoon with a .22 short as they stuck their head out of the hole in the outside wall. The second one went back in, and I just knew he'd die in the wall, but after looking in the hole I found him piled up with a hole in his neck (luckily). MichiganHunter
if you have a live trap you can use that, or can pick up some cci rat shot for your .22 and use that.
