stevebeilgard
i think that we, as a nation, have become people we simply were not 5 years ago. lots of us are disillusioned, out of work, and are in a tail spin like our nation has never been in before. that, of course, transfers over to friends, family, and everyday thoughts. i think that when we, as a nation, come out of the hole we are in, so will we as a forum see brighter days. Dawg
No, I would agree to that. It's just different is all, not better, not worse, just different. I don't know how many other forums will get together as a group and send a guy to Illinois to bowhunt with 2 buddies, or raise funds to send a kid on an elk hunt, or get together again and send folks to Wyoming on an antelope hunt and then again, as the latest example, to send folks to Alaska on a moose hunt. I think those accomplishments are truly the hallmark of who we are as a family here on RT. That's the truth Chris, heck I don't know many blood kin family members that would pitch in to help each other go on hunting adventures like we have seen on here. How many other forums do you know of that send folks syrup, knives, turkey calls, honey, jerky, wine, arrows, broadheads, hats, stickers, rests, old clothes, and on and on.....???? Not many I would guess. I always tell my kids and students, it's easy to tear down, it's easy to rip someone asunder, so strive to build up, make someone better and in the end you are better. There's a lot of giving folks in here that truly enjoy seeing other people happy about getting more out of life, I know I do. I'm happy to say I've been fortunate enough to be on the receiving end and hopefully I can continue to be on the giving end. Yep, me too. Never in a million years would have thought two guys from Ohio would take the time to send me a gift or a Pro-hunter would have sent me a packet of hunting decals and a autographed picture. Too cool for sure. Like I said, for the most part, 99.9% IMO, we still have good ol hometown folks here and even though I haven't met any of y'all face to face I am glad to call y'all my friend. It's good to see the different views each long standing member has.
GWSmith
The forums been stricken with thinskinitus over the last year or two. One thing that remains...I'm still a jerk . RT is definitely not like is used to be...everyone can't wait to point a finger at someone. Oh well ya can't please everyone....I have my core group of folks that I talk with, the rest I just ignore or ban Breaking News Kyle...Just because someone does not share your views, and actually stands up and shares something different than what you want, does not make them "Thin-Skinned". I agree that this place has always been a better place than other forums and that alot of the people in it have bent over backwards to give to others. I've always enjoyed that aspect of being here! That has not changed other than everyones belts are a little tighter financially these days everywhere! This is still the best place hands down...but dont expect it to remain that way without a fundamental change in the direction Mike describes below! Mike said it all in this: "What changed the most to me are the attitudes of today's world. Seems like its about me and only my opinions matter and my way or no way thing". Dawg
Let's not turn this into a heated debate over who is right or wrong, ok? We've had far too many of those debates as it is! I just wanted some insight on what the forums were like before. I agree with Kyle.........................you are still a jerk. :pop:
Ravin R10 man
back in the day..when buckee was a mod..(this is the missing link here)...this place was really something..I liked the site better with the old style site we had..think it was more user friendly than this one is..think we lost some people when it changed over Edited April 6, 2010 by Mathews XT Man
The_Kat
Breaking News Kyle...Just because someone does not share your views, and actually stands up and shares something different than what you want, does not make them "Thin-Skinned". Classic example of what I was talking about. Heres some advice for those who like to whine and get bent outta shape over nothing...if you have a problem with a member, send them a PM. Don't try and make it a public issue. That would save TONS of drama.
GWSmith
Some people should follow their own advice...actually they should be able to lead the forums by their actions. Saying the truth should always be one of them.

Ethan Givan
I wasnt here "back in the day" but what I see is a few members who have strong opinions that they share willingly and these opinions clash causing drama. This thread is a perfect example. JMHO

Exactly. If we adults, and especially every single moderator in here, can't lead our youngins who visit this forum, by an upstanding moral example, then we're all not doing our jobs in life, never mind just this forum. This isn't my opinion, it's a fact of life. Look around at the world today.(like Steve Beilgard said)
The_Kat
Well I will say this and drop the subject...I don't hide behind a screen name. What I type is me through and through. I don't put on a front and act like I'm a better person on here than I really am. I post here just as if I would as if you and I were talking face to face. I'm not one to act like I'm better than everyone else. If I disagree with you, I'm going to tell you I disagree. I stand for what I believe in very strongly as thats how I was raised. I apologize if I come off rough around the edges, but again what you see is what you get with me. It's been this way for 8 years and I don't see it changing anytime soon. Bob LeBlanc
W-e-l-l...I tell ya... I have been frequenting these Forums for a good many years. buckee, Leo, Tbow, myself got our initiation to internet forums through another site, many, many moons ago. I come to hunting forums to share my experiences, and my experience, with those who have an interest to hear them or learn from them...and, likewise, I hope to learn from yours. Not only does it make me a better hunter...but it makes me a better person, too. To try to put the changes in a single word...I would say 'competetiveness'....yup...a lot of the angst we read is rooted in competetiveness. Thirty-seven years ago, I started carrying a firearm in the woods...Back then, we shared the hunting experience. A fellow hunter's success was celebrated...we'd lend a hand as best we could...it was smiles and slaps-on-the-back, and congrats all around. I bring that up because it doesn't seem to be that way in the woodlands anymore...nor here, at times. There is an ever present need for one-upmanship, so it would appear. A drive to be determined the best...THE voice. Some competition is healthy...some competition is fun. But sometimes, it gets in the way of civility, too. Straight Shooter
The forums are the same, its the names that keep changing. I've been here for almost 10 years now and still enjoy it.
wtnhunt
I've been here for almost 10 years now and still enjoy it. Yep, same here. Seen a lot of folks come and seen a lot of folks go, but the forums for the most part have not really changed so much as some might think. Think a better term may be adapted. From a technical standpoint there have been a lot of upgrades over the years, can remember when the photopost was something that was asked for and Scott looked at it and got it done, now we have hosting for video at rt tv too. Been a lot of gripes by some about confusion and kinks to work out but my opinion all those upgrades have for the most part been good, we have kept a good number of members who have seen the forums through several changes so things must not be too bad. People wise, think most of the older members here are still pretty much the same, not really all that different than they were 5,8, or even 10 years ago. Only difference really there is that there were a lot less of us way back when, with that probably a little less diversity.
