Wobbly_Alaska
Hmmm interesting, Alaska does not allow Cross Bow in archery restricted hunts UNLESS>.... a person applies for and receives a disability permit from the F&G however we can use cross bow in any unrestricted general season hunts,, and can hunt with a bow in those same hunts WITHOUT the IBEP Alaska is tough to get archery only hunts in place as they are considered " special hunts" that discriminate against other user groups. Unless they are in areas C/F is too dangerous to use or in the case of the north slope is part of the land use agreement with the native coprs that own the land. ChrisSeb53
crossbows were permitted to persons with a disability, but recently became legal for everyone to use in Pennsylvania... not sure what the legal minimum for them are here though
MichiganHunter
I dont know about draw weight I was always told you needed to be above 35lbs but that could just be recommended, we are at 350fps for a cross bow though...cant be over 350fps that is. TBow
Not sure if it's changed in a while, but it used to be 40 lbs for whitetails and 50 lbs for bear and moose. For xbows I think it's 120 lbs for deer and 150 lbs for bear and moose. If you're using a recurve or longbow it used to stipulate 40 lbs @ 28" for deer and 50 lbs @ 28" for bear and moose. Length reference seemed a little redundant to me as some people draw diferrent lengths, which on some situations could leave a CO with calculator or else a hunter arguing a case with a "by-the-numbers" CO. Broadheads also used to have some stipulations such as "non-serated" and indicated a minimum width of cut. All those items may well have changed as it's been a few years since I looked them up, but I'll take a look and see just out of curiousity. TBow
O.K. looked it all up: Deer: Bows must have a minimum draw weight of 18 kg / 39.7 lb @ 700 mm / 27.6 in. or less. Arrows must be a minimum of 600 mm / 23.6 in and broadheads must have a minimum width of 22 mm / 0.87 in. with at least two sharp cutting edges. Crossbows must have a minimum weight of 45 kg / 99.2 lb. Bolt lengths must have a minimum of 300 mm / 11.8 in. and broadheads must have a minimum width of 22 mm / 0.87 in. with at least two sharp cutting edges. Bear and Moose: Bows must have a minimum draw weight of 22 kg / 48.5 lb @ 700 mm / 27.6 in. or less. Arrows must be a minimum of 600 mm / 23.6 in and broadheads must have a minimum width of 22 mm / 0.87 in. with at least two sharp cutting edges. Crossbows must have a minimum weight of 54 kg / 119 lb. Bolt lengths must have a minimum of 300 mm / 11.8 in. and broadheads must have a minimum width of 22 mm / 0.87 in. with at least two sharp cutting edges. WHEW! That near tuckered me out! Like I said, you'd need a laser measuring device and a calculator with a conversion scale to take to the woods in Ontario I guess. johnf
crossbows were permitted to persons with a disability, but recently became legal for everyone to use in Pennsylvania... not sure what the legal minimum for them are here though If it's like Arkansas you will see a tini change maybe + 4-5% bow hunters using Xbow. Like myself, most guys who start out with a Xbow will soon go to the Compound, and some of the older guys will keep bow hunting with the Xbow rather than giving up due to bad shoulders. All in all it wont significantly change the hunting.
