sureshot
yes rubbing is very bad, I know the slightest rub will downgrade a western heavy to a section 3 which means a 50 doller yote to a 15 doller yote! this is rubbign on the neck or on the rump of females, also soem consider rubbing on the rumps of males thathave been fighting,The necks will thin out as winter goes on which is normal and not really a bad downgrade unless it looks thin and you can see the underfur, but it takes a good eye to see rubbign and once you get it shown to you you will see the difference, I do agree with you that soem buyers go to far,Ihave had them try with me! I sold abotu 50 last week and I sort them out when at the buyer he says look at the rubbign on this one, I told him he was full of well lets say poop lol, he then grabbed a good one and put them side by side you could see the underfur all along the sides, no doubt in my mind once I seen it, also soem coyotes are what my buyer calles whooly coyotes they just grow thick underfur and look like theya re rubbed just do not grow the guard hair good all year!I knwo alst year here by feb 15 the coyotes were doen and it still was -35 out, bush coyotes rub more in the bush, than farmland coyotes, this year bush coyotes were done jan 15 here,, with coons I have not seen much rubbed but do know that fightign damage this time of the year is a really bad downgrade, the scars on the back and rump will drop a hide by 50-75%! I cannot after thoasands of coyotes catch a rubbed one all the tiem untill I set it by a fully prime one, also once they are skinned they look worse, one little secret I found is in feb all my coyotes are streched abotu 2" narrower than the rest of the year jsut makes them look fuller! If a buyer is looking at a fur and says it is rubbed be nice not ignorant just ask him if he can show it to you so you know, get him to show you a good hide in comparasin, if it is not to bad and he really downgrades tell him to go soemwere and grab the furs,if its neck, or sides are really thin he is prob right, also if you get downgraded on the center of the back ask him why couse the center 2" or so is cut out for most of the market also the tails are not used anymore,as the heads,Most of the buyers are pretty good but soem see a trapper as a idiot he can make a fortune from be carefull and don't let them!Just remember thta the best coyotes you see on the market and sales are no vissable damage at all, no rubbign and no flaws, earlier this year the damaged stuff was like 5 bucks, now china is back in the market and last sale was abotu 15 becouse they will pay cheap labor to repair it! I had a few coyotes bring me 10 becosue of rubbign so it is a bad if not the worse downgrade! Hope thsi helped a bit and good luck!!
