LOL. Turkey hunting and nasty tempered venomous snakes run hand in hand here, was several years into hunting before I ever got my first pair of snake boots, would not go without them some times of the year here now.

Least those rattlers will typically give you a warning, copperheads and water moccasins will sometimes about let you step on them, occasionally they will also shake their tails like a rattler and you can hear the vibration against leaves, but would not count on getting a warning from them. About all I could say is be careful where you step, especially stepping over logs and areas where there are a lot of leaves where you might not see them, snakes like to hide/move under the leaves and they do blend in very well.

Oh and yeah, snake boots are great, but when you are laying on the ground and got a bird gobbling in eyesight and also got a lowbelly slithering through the leaves within a few yards while you are laying on the ground it can be a bit unnerving trying to hold out for that bird. Has happened to me on more than just a couple occasions where I have had snakes get close while I was sitting or laying on the ground, wife had her first close encounter with a water moccasin while on the ground turkey hunting last spring think she posted something about that somewhere. There is a pretty distinct sound to a snake moving through/under the leaves, once you have heard it you will know what it is when you hear it.

We've got plenty of snakes, but I've never owned a pair of snake boots, but I'm sure they're a sound investment.

But like William said, if you're going to run up on a snake, a rattler is one of the best to confront. I've never seen one that didn't do his best to warn you.

Copperheads are responsible for about 80% of the bites in this state. Them things bite first and ask questions later.

Relax and hunt!

Yeah I would just watch where I step and go hunting, but snakes dont bother me much.

Last spring me and my cousin were hunting together one afternoon and we had set up on a bird that was gobbling. As I was setting there against this tree I heard something in the leaves beside me and I look over and see this 3 foot black snake not 12 inches from my leg. My cousin was setting on the other side of me and I told him "dont move there is a snake next to me." As soon as I said this he jumps up and I swear I thought he was gonna shoot my leg off.:stupid: so I did my best James Bond roll away from the tree. Needless to say my cousin is scared to death of snakes and we didnt see any turkeys :D
