Goinghuntin
Anyone have any experience with a Mossberg 4x4 rifle? I'm looking at a few different models and brands and this one caught my eye :1eye: Nathan
coles
Im sure some people will disagree with me but if i were you, i would steer way clear of the mossbergs. If you are looking for a good rifle and to save money, i would go with the marlin x series or a stevens 200. Or $100 more you can get a howa or a weatherby vanguard. JMHO. Goinghuntin
I was also looking at the Savage 114 Classic. I little on the expensive side for me, but it's a pretty sweet looking rifle. http://www.savagearms.com/firearms/model/114%20CLASSIC Nathan
Jeramie
Im sure some people will disagree with me but if i were you, i would steer way clear of the mossbergs. Mossberg makes a great shotgun. When you mean steer clear I hope you mean of the 4x4. In that sense I agree. They look cool but I personally am not a fan. They are cheaply made. In their defense I have never shot one. I personally would look more toward the Marlin, Stevens, or even the old Savage 110/ 111 before I would go that route. All of those listed are cheap but good shooters. coles
No way am i including the shotguns! lol One of the best drag through the mud use as a boat paddle and still kill stuff shotguns made! I have never shot a mossberg rifle either but from reading and hearing everyone else's experiences with them, i wont own one or shoot one. bluelund79
I've owned a Mossberg 4x4 for the past 3 years in 300 WIN MAG. Its a very nice rifle for the money. I took off the stock scope and replaced it with a Nikon Buckmaster. For the nay-sayers, shoot/own one first before knocking them. I know persons will call bs, and when I get the chance to head to the range and take some pics-mine shoots under 1MOA at 100yds with Winchester Baliistic Silvertips. I like it, and won't get rid of it at all anytime soon....However, now that Marlin has their entry level rifle-I'd look at one of those if you are shopping for 270,30/06 or 25/06. My soldier bought one and its a tack driver and the safety is much easier to manipulate with gloves on. That is my only complaint with my Mossberg-the safety is cheap...Other than that, no complaints. happy shopping! Savage 111's are also in the same price range too-Got one in 30/06 and its way nicer than the Mossberg...
Goinghuntin
I finally made it out to Gander Mountain today and looked at one of the Mossberg 4x4's. The fit and finish was ok for me but the bolt rattled too much. Same with the Tikka I looked at. Nathan
davetucker
I bought a 4x4 in 270 when they first came out a few yrs back. It shoots very smooth and WAS a tack driver . However since my bear hunt something happened , I don't know if i banged it on a tree or what but i don't recall banging it anywhere i tend to treat my rifles like babies even my less expensive one's . Since then i haven't been able to get it to group worth crap . It has been to two different gunsmiths and still shoots like crap . I am hopeing to find a GOOD gunsmith and fix the darn thing . hunterbobb
I agree with what most everyone else is saying. I would give the Marlin XL7 a close look. I think it is the best economy grade rifle out there. :gun2:

Jeramie
Um... welcome to the forums? Kind of odd. Dig up a year old thread for your first post? Anyway, they will kill a deer sure as anything out there. Just dont plan on shooting any matches with one, and I dont care what anyone has to say. ScottyLuck
Been awhile but I'll add my .02. I worked at Mossberg in 2007 running CNC's for a short period of time. It didn't take long to realize I would never own one. I really can't say much more. I moved on out of there pretty quickly. Wasn't the place for me.
