Bird hits the dirt

Finally I've shot another gobbler. I think it's been 10 years since the last one.

Last night I watched 3 gobblers and 4 hens in my food plot and told my wife if they roost to the right side of the field I'm hunting in the morning. Well that's what they did so this morning I walked out across the field on the opposite side and set out a hen decoy. Got set up and waiting for more light. Hit the call a couple times and one of the hens answered me followed by a gobble. They were right in front of me and close! Some crows flew over and made him gobble again. Few minutes later I watch him pitch out the tree and land about 60 yards to my right in the field followed by another gobbler. (You won't believe this but I set up within 50 yards of this turkey in the tree and didn't know it). Well he sees the decoy and slowly is making his way across the field to it. He's about 40 yards now and I'm waiting for a couple more steps. It looks at me then the decoy and he starts looking spooked. I had to move my gun around a little tree and decided to take the shot right then... BOOM.... turkey drops without flapping a wing. #5 Heavy Shot did the trick.

This is the first bird I've taken in a very long time. It wasn't a real long hunt but plenty exciting. My heart was beating out my chest when I had that bird coming in. I'm pumped!!! First turkey on my family's property too!
