Tom2008
I need to get 13-13-13 fertilizer for my plot, but can't find it anywere except online. Can anyone recommend a certain brand? I'm thinking I have to buy it online.
Tom2008
Apparently I didn't look hard enough. I guess Home Depot sells it.
wtnhunt
Lowes had it here last year, but man was the price ever ridiculous. Our coop's prices were not any better either.
Tominator
Fertilizer has gone through the roof in the last few years. Agree with William, your local Co-op is probably worth checking out.
Tom2008
Suprisingly Home Depot carries is for only $13.00 a bag. My dad just told me they have some at work though. Just enough for me to use on the plot. Thanks for the info though.
redkneck
I haven't seen a shortage of it, but havent bought any in about 4 months. The co-op should have it in the 13.50 range I'd guess. Fertilizers have doubled in price, and ammonia nitrate is outrageous. Watch what you get at the box stores, the price may look competitive but generally you'll be buying 40lbs instead of 50 at the co-op. redkneck
Fertilizer skyrocketed at the same time gasoline did about 4 years ago when prices were in the $5.50/50lb range. They are actually back down some now. I was curious and just called my co-op. Prices now are $11.45/50lbs. Like fuel, high fertilizer prices seem like they are here to stay. Tom2008
$12.99 for a 20 lb bag. I only need about 30 lbs. http://www.homedepot.com/Outdoors-Garden-Center-Fertilizers-All-Purpose-Flower-Vegetable/h_d1/N-5yc1vZ1xg1Zaqaz/R-100664198/h_d2/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053
redkneck
Do you have a co-op or farm supply locally? Don't buy fertilizer at a big box store. Just get the yellow pages and look up your farm supply place and ask for prices on triple-13. The brand does not matter. Nothing wrong with shultz, but that stuff is for cutsey little rose beds, slow release, and packaged to sell to little old ladies that dont care about the price. Yep, it is outrageous where fertilizer prices have gone. Prices have more than doubled. I can remember griping at the feed store when he wetn to $6 a 50 lb bag for the 6-12-12 I used to buy from him for my clover plots. Those days are long gone. Cheapest I have seen 13-13-13 here has actually been at lowes, their prices were a little lower than the coop's last spring.
Tom2008
Couldn't find any 13-13-13 around here. Went and got some 10-10-10. Should do the trick still.

I came up with 30 lbs of fertilizer for a 2,800 square foot area. Plot isn't exacly 2,800. Probably a little more. But that was comparing with the 13-13-13. Tominator
You can try this http://www.tulsamastergardeners.org/blackbox/fertcalc.htm. That's a cool link if you know your soil test results. I've never tested my soil. A lot depends on what you're planting I guess. I use triple 16 or 13 on my corn and taters, but I don't broadcast it, I use it as a side dress.
