Chucks are out in full force!!

Recommended Posts

So a few other guys and myself made the trip down to NYC to see a Yankees game. Along the way on the side of the freeway I saw a bunch of woodchucks out in the grass. I even saw a coyote out in an open field!! It killed me and I'm probably going to try head to my parent's farm to make it out tomorrow after work.

Just curious, why do you guys shoot them? Are they a pest or something or do you guys just like to shoot them?
Good pratice for me.Only thing we can use a high-power rifle on[and yotes] but they are a pain in the rear.Last night I had a landowner come out and shake my hand and thank me for shooting them off of his property. They have tore up his pond bank and he hates them.

They can be a major pest. They cause crop and machinery damage. Just ask my wife. You know what the rolling hills are like around where you live. She was haying and hit a woodchuck hole. It rolled the entire wagon of hay causing all sorts of damage.

That's true and at times if it doesn't roll something, an axle will crack and break. Now is the time to get them. They're still using winter holes that are out in the open fields and the fresh green grass isn't too tall yet. This past weekend I was sick and it was raining. Hopefully this weekend is nice so I can get a handful at my parent's farm.

We shoot them here too. Another reason is that cows and horses can step in one of their holes and break a leg. Bullets are a lot less money and a lot more fun than having to put down a cow or horse with a broken leg!

That's an even more serious matter than damaged equipment. Fortunately, my parents haven't had something like that happen. I've been trying to scout some holes. Not all are active.
