IowaDeerHunter
Re: Gordon daytona 500 winner I would love to try it though, that would be SWEET! And when people say they only drive in circles, they have nio idea what they are talking about, because they are ovals! Not circles! MichiganHuntr1
Re: Gordon daytona 500 winner From now on when someone runs down Dale Jr, i will simply re post what I said earlier. IDH has made some very good posts, nice job bud! Heres what i will post everytime Here is the stats on Jr. This is for anyone who says his daddy helped him. Daddy didnt help him win, or get any position. I said when I joined here last time that his dad did help him, but he didnt at all. I was stirring the pot. Im over that now. Here is the truth, If youre not a Jr. fan, please stop saying his daddy helped him. In a way, its running down the greatest driver ever, Dale Sr. So please stop! http://www.racing-reference.com/driver?id=earnhda02 I also get a kick how people run down Gordon, but wont even say why they dont like him. Is it because they dont know why?
IowaDeerHunter
Re: Gordon daytona 500 winner Thanks Michiganhuntr1, I just like to stick up for my favorite driver. you said it perfect about how saying things about Junior is just running down Dale Sr., I really couldn't figure out how to put it! And hey for a JeffGordon fan to say that Dale Earnhardt is the greatest driver ever is really cool. I am glad to haer you say that. you are a really cool Gordon fan! VermontHunter
Re: Gordon daytona 500 winner For those of you that doubt Jeff Gordon's driving capability's take a gander at these facts folks, from 1949 to date these numbers rank Jeff 3rd. in all time great drivers and 2 of them are now retired and Jeff could blow thier stats to bits by the time he decides to hang it up....... Career wins Rank Driver Wins 1. Richard Petty 200 2. David Pearson 105 3. Bobby Allison 84 Darrell Waltrip 84 4. Cale Yarborough 83 5. Dale Earnhardt 76 6. Jeff Gordon 70 Career winning percentage(minimum 100 starts) Rank Driver Pct. Wins/Races 1. Herb Thomas 21% 48/228 2. Tim Flock 20% 40/187 3. David Pearson 18% 105/574 4. Jeff Gordon 17% 70/402 5. Richard Petty 16% 200/1,185 Career titles Rank Driver Titles 1. Richard Petty 7 Dale Earnhardt 7 2. Jeff Gordon 4 3. David Pearson 3 Lee Petty 3 Darrell Waltrip 3 Cale Yarborough 3 Gordon's rank among active drivers Category Total/Avg. Rank Wins 70 1st Poles 52 1st Avg. finish 11.9 1st Avg. start 9.3 1st Top 5's 192 3rd (Mark Martin - 215) Top 10's 256 4th (Ricky Rudd - 364) Laps led 16,922 2nd (Rusty Wallace - 19,713) Starts 402 12th (Rudd - 840) What makes his numbers even more stunning is when you consider the era that he has posted them in. Petty, Pearson, Allison and Yarborough won the vast majority of their races during the 1960's and 70's, a time when only the top five teams were legitimate contenders. For example, in 1974 those four combined to win 29 of the 30 races run. Waltrip and Earnhardt started winning as parity began to take over in the '80's. But the vast majority of Earnhardt and Gordon's numbers have come during the sport's most competitive era. Since 1990, an average of 13 different drivers have won at least one Cup race each season. And in the last five years, we have average 16 visitors to Victory Lane. Over those same five years, Gordon has won 21 times.
Chrud
Re: Gordon daytona 500 winner Attaboy Dustin! You know why Gordon isn't one of my favorites. I have a reason for it, and not stupid opinions either. I appreciate that too, shows some Gordon fans have class.
VermontHunter
Re: Gordon daytona 500 winner What no mention of the stats I posted Chrud ??? Now that has to be a first...LOL And some time I would love to hear your reasons for disliking Gordon....and will say you have more than respectful in your posts of Gordon or any other driver in fact,,,,,and for this I have respect for you and your opinions.. Chrud
Re: Gordon daytona 500 winner The drivers put their life on the line for the enjoyment of rednecks everywhere. I appreciate that. My very first post in "What's Your Reason" states why I'm not a big fan of Gordon or Johnson. They are great drivers and nobody can take that away from them. spyderpancake
Re: Gordon daytona 500 winner Pretty good stats. Like you said, Earnhardt and Gordon's achievements are that much more significant because they happened during a highly competitive period. Even though he is not one of my favorites, I consider Gordon to be one of the best current(and all-time) racers. Which will make Junior's championship this year so sweet, because he beat such a worthy opponent.
VermontHunter
Re: Gordon daytona 500 winner Jr. is a worthy apponent himself, he can race with the best of em' and win..... The stats were for those that think Gordon ***** and have no clue about his accomplishments, these people to me have no clue about racing..... IowaDeerHunter
Re: Gordon daytona 500 winner i am a 100 percent dale Jr. fan and a 0 percent Gordon fan, but that doesn't mean I hate or disrespect the man. Don't get me wrong, just look at those stats he is one of the MOST accomplished drivers, and yes one of the best.
VermontHunter
Re: Gordon daytona 500 winner I can respect that !!!!.... just not the people that bash him for no good reason.... IowaDeerHunter
Re: Gordon daytona 500 winner Yeahi read Chrud's opinions on JJ and I would have to agree with him. But I am not saying that the guy isn't a good driver, he can obviously win races and has proved that, but i feel the same way as Chrus does about him. [/ QUOTE ] Well Chrud I read your post in the other thread and here's my thought s on it.... [ QUOTE ] Now, let's see if any Gordon fans can get through a post without saying 8 sucks. [/ QUOTE ] I think I've accomplished this feat quite easily.... You reasons on the #48 I can grasp....but the reasons on the #24 seem kind of weak to me for that much discontent,,,,but hey you are intitled to your opinion, and you have yet to display any rude and unfactual post about any driver that I have seen, so that tells me that you love the sport more than the drivers and that's a mark of a true Nascar Fan in my book..... Chrud
Re: Gordon daytona 500 winner A little winning goes a long way. I couldn't stand Newman in '03 when he won 8 times, because they were all fuel strategy races. All that winning in a short time, I really got tired of seeing him in victory lane. [/ QUOTE ] What do you mean by Senior helping him, if you mean on the race track, there's only so far helping on the track will go, remember, Sr. died blocking for Junior and Waltrip. As for Junior getting his start, well, daddy did help with that, that can't be denied, I mean, the only person Junior has ever driven for was his dad, Teresa now. As for Gordon haters, the only reason people don't like him is because he is good and because he tasted success early, either that, or they don't know, like you said. I freely admit Gordon and Senior were friends, wasn't any secret, they had business ventures together, makes you wonder why opposing fans will cuss each other out at the race track but the 2 drivers in contention were really good friends and business partners.
