Global Warming Over For Now?

With that volcano in Iceland spewing ash into the atmosphere we should experience some moderate to severe cooling for awhile because it will block some of the sun. Just like Mount St. Helens and the Krakatoa eruptions. We'll have to see how long it goes. It's still throwing ash out. If severe enough temps may lower for several years. I guess God's still in charge of climate change.

Yes. But along with the ash, the volcano is spewing more of that dreaded greenhouse gas, CO2 into the atmosphere than all of mankind has produced since we have existed. So that should about negate the ash cloud.

Personally, I think obama and al gore and the u.n. and the lying scientists at the i.p.c.c. need to pass a law forbidding volcanic eruptions immediately if not retroactively.

Our planet needs saving and it needs it now.

This is still more of Bush's fault. He should have passed that law about volcanos when he was in office and he didn't. This didn't have to happen if he would have simply acted.

It should save us lots of money anyhow. One of the big plans to combat global warming was to detonate a huge explosive device in the atmosphere to scatter particulates to block the sun. Will we get a rebate check seeing that's being done for free now? Hope it's enough to buy that new Hoyt I want. :D

I know you're right. That danged Bush !!!

We need a congressional investigation into what Bush knew about this Icelandic volcano and when he knew it.

Volcanogate!!!

That is patently false.

Thanks for the link.

But, I (as should everyone else) take as trash anything published by a professor who aligns himself with the poseurs at the IPCC. The recent rash of exposed fraud and outright lies IPCC "scientists" have been caught trying to pass off as fact are undeniable and telling of the commission's agenda.

Your link mentions Australian geologist Ian Plimer as being a global warming skeptic and "consistently incorrect". The reality is that Mr. Plimer has published a 500 page book ("Heaven and Earth") on the facts and myths of climate change. I was a geology major in college. This book is the most heavily footnoted piece of scientific literature I have ever read......... i.e. Mr. Plimer has no sources to hide or data to skew or outright omit an/or alter.

Maybe you should spend a little time away from the IPCC propoganda sites and do a bit research into the actual, provable science. ;)

Well seems to be we are experiencing an increased number of natural disasters so to speak each year...The Bible tells us the facts.

And that "any God" is not just "any"...it is God and God alone and it seems that what He tells us in the Bible is coming.....

I'm not worrying about it....can't stop what God has already put into motion.

Woa careful there, you're painting with broad strokes. I absolutely agree there were a handful of researchers who in order to push thier own agenda cooked the books to do so. But that in no way renders the entire organization (or thier findings) as fraud. BTW - I don't remember the IPCC referenced anywhere on the link I provided, hold on I'll double check......nope not anywhere. That site simply proves that volcanoes do not emit as much carbon dioxide as human activity.

LOL! It seems that book has been criticized more than the IPCC. I haven't read the content of his footnotes, but are you suggesting that the more references an author provides, the more reliable the information? If thats the case, I'll tell you the moon is made from cheese and cite Batman comics all day!:D

I've devoted my entire acedemic and proffessional career to the scientific process and evidence based practice. I'll be the first person to debunk propaganda of any sort. You brought up the IPCC, not me. Perhaps you should take your own advice.

As far as climate change goes, I'm of the opinion that we are experiencing a warming trend that would probably be happening with or with out human activity. I also feel that humans are contributing to that warming trend at least a bit by our emission of greenhouse gases. But ultimately I'm reserving judgement until more evidence can be gathered, we just don't have enough climactic data to form a sound scientific conclusion. My intent by providing the link was to show how dangerous misinformation can be, and there seems to be a lot of heated, highly emotional opinions being formed in this country based on such misinformation.

The OP makes a good point, this volcano appears large and active enough to cause a period of cooling.

Stating opinion as fact sets a dangerous precedent, does it not?

Not specificallym in the link you provided.....no. It took about 15 seconds of backtracking on the same website to find the IPCC connection.

Ever notice how hard the left works to smear and discredit anything or anybody that stands in the way of their agenda??

Take the time. The book is remarkably well done. ;)

You are new here, maybe you should share with us what that experience is.

Climate changes have been occurring for a very long time, likely as long as this earth has been in existence, some scientific data depending on the scientist actually supports that. Actually would agree with what you say about misinformation being dangerous, much of science is flawed, beit for agenda driven cause or flawed data, it happens.

Amazingly there are no shortage of folks out there who will jump on the bandwagon and blindly support someone or a cause who in the name of "science" has come up with a brilliant idea to pad their pocket. Support for a cause or idea in the name of science does not make it fact.

If you look at cyclic changes, the earth has had warm periods going back to well before there were ever any greenhouse gas emitting vehicles, factories, and etc.

Far as the activity under the earth goes, volcanic eruptions and earthquakes from my understanding have remained pretty well constant, it is just more recognized at the current point in time as a result of more population and more media coverage getting that attention to people.

The OP makes a good point, this volcano appears large and active enough to cause a period of cooling.

Has happened before, and there was factual evidence or at least data to support those cooler temps being attributed as a result of the ash.

Sorry it took me so long to get back, between the 24 hour shifts at the PT job and a three year old who is all about discovering "nature trails" I've been fairly busy. That and living walking distance from a nice trout stream! lol

To be honest, I find the far left to be just as wacko as the far right. I take anything either says with a grain of salt and try to think for myself.

Vermont must have changed lots since I grew up there. The far right today would have been considered moderate then, especially their views on fiscal responsibility. You can still catch fish though from the sounds of things and that's good.

yes, it does. go re-read your "opinions" and you'll see what i'm saying. and remember that opinions are like noses. everyone has one.

ruth is right on, without question. we are in the hands of the lord and there's nothing we can do to change his will.

don't forget that some of these very same "scientists" predicted a new ice age starting back in the late 1960's, and al gore was leading that parade also. i'm sure the fact al gore made $5,000,000.00 from global warming last year has nothing to do with his "opinion".

yea, right.
