Ohiobucks
Today was the opener of Ohio's youth turkey season, my son Jake and I were out after them. This morning it was pretty cold and very windy. We had several birds gobbling, but they were on the neighbors property, we never had any close to us. We hunted hard until about 10:00am or so, until our hunger got the best of us. We pulled the blind, packed it all back to the truck and went to the breakfast joint. Visited with mom at the hospital for a little bit (she is doing very well by the way, back home right now) and went to the property behind our house to set the blind for the afternoon hunt. We got back in the blind around 5:20pm, thinking we had a few hours until the birds came into this area to roost. I set the decoys on the logging road ahead of us, got in the blind with Jake and got comfortable. My buddy called me on my cell phone, I talked to him for a few minutes and hung up. Got the calls out, made a few loud box call yelps. A few minutes later we heard an answer from behind us. I grabbed the slate call, and made a few softer calls, then they came into view. A jake and a tom. They worked their way towards us, staying in the thick stuff. They were 15 yards out the side of the blind, and the tom started to gobble. He went in and out of strut about 10 times, gobbled about 8 times. He finally came towards the front of the blind and Jake sent a load of 5's from his 20 gauge 870, and down he went! We hugged it out, laughing all the while. His tom has an 8" beard, 7/8" spurs and weighed in right at 20 lbs. Try and wipe that smile off his face..... :D

Ohiobucks
The slate call I was using to bring this bird in the last 60 yards or so was from our very own bowhunter56, Andy makes a fine turkey calling instrument. One breast in the marinade, one in the freezer, and the fan is pinned down in the barn loaded down with Borax as I type.... :cowboy: Jake says thanks to you all who sent congrats his way.
