AJ
Actually the finish is textured enough to make it non slip. Personally, if its drizzling or raining, I will definately have a synthetic stocked gun in my hands when I am hunting. Those are the times synthetic stocks are head and shoulders above wood stocks. Granted I don't care at all for the injection molded pieces of plastic that typically come on most guns. Laid up fiberglass stocks are definately superior in performance to wood in all but looks. archerjg
Re: Synthetic Stocks ? I have a synthetic stocked Marlin .22 Mag and I would rather have it in the rain than my wooden stocked guns. Even when wet it does not feel slippery. Guest bronco_mudder
Re: Synthetic Stocks ? In a field gun I prefer to carry a synthetic stock. I have found one disadvantage to them. I live in northern Manitoba, and in cold weathers the syn. stock seems to draw the warmth from your hands, where as wood will not.
wtnhunt
Re: Synthetic Stocks ? Dont really think the 710 is a good example of remingtons better products. I have a 1994 model 700 with a factory synthetic stock, and I love it. It has a great feel to it for it me and I prefer it over any gun for all weather hunting. Now my wifes savage on the other hand I really dont like the stock on it. I think AJ is right on with his comment about them being made of recycled ice trays. It just seems cheap to me, but my wife being that it is hers she does not at least at the present time want to let me change the stock or scope on it. We all know of your bad experience with remington CK. Did you ever get your 597 straightened out? On other synthetics, my winchester has a factory camo'd synthetic finish and it has a great feel to it. I think it really depends some on the line in some manufacturers as to the quality of the stock.
too_pointer
Re: Synthetic Stocks ? Here is my take on this: I bought "after market" from Rem. camo synthetics for an 1100, and 11-87. I thought they were o.k., looked good anyways. I bought a Bell & Carlson stock for my Rem. 7400. The Bell was a much better fit and the texture was much better than the ones Rem. sells, but also twice the price. The syn. stock that came on my TC Encore, was junk as far as I was concerned. I replaced that with a wood laminated stock from Boyd's. I have held guns with a more rubbery finish on their syn. stocks, I like that, and would look for something similiar in my next gun. too_
