Scarlet Dew
Gang..........this is theeee opportunity we all have been waiting for here in Indiana to actually grow some true MONSTER BUCKS everywhere in the state!! The Indiana DNR currently has on online survey that was opened today and will stop taking input on Friday April 23rd at 8pm. In this survey you will be asked if you want the state of Indiana to move back the gun season and shorten the days of gun season (currently we have a 32 day gun season that is placed right in the middle of the rut!! TERRIBLE!!) .......and this is a survey you can voice your opinion on. The state of Indiana wants your input.........this could launch us into a new ERA in this state!! Please fill out the survey on this link.......... http://www.in.gov/dnr/fishwild/5904.htm You will only get one shot to fill out the survey as it is only good for one survey per computer/IP address..... Please pass this link on to as many as you can think of that will help us promote and move our bucks to a higher age class........and help with hunter recruitment. Thanks for your time. Gobblerstopper
 Sorry...but that made me laugh lol Sorry again. Nathan LOL, it made me and a lot of other people laugh too. It is a shame that 3 or 4 people in the state of Indiana can run around spamming support for something and all the while imply that they have knowledge of what they are spamming. Scarlet Dew, where did you get your biology degree?
Scarlet Dew
LOL, it made me and a lot of other people laugh too. It is a shame that 3 or 4 people in the state of Indiana can run around spamming support for something and all the while imply that they have knowledge of what they are spamming. Scarlet Dew, where did you get your biology degree? I do believe if the link were spam.........REALTREE would boot this topic. Problem is that a few in Indiana want to keep old tradition alive in this state that involves 32 days of gun season right in the middle of the rut which is pummeling our potential to see more mature deer........you know..........like the ones Michael Wadell from here comes to Indiana to shoot, but has to go to a HIGHLY protected area to get a good chance at one. With regulation changes/input you will find in this survey..........Wadell won't have to hunt in just one spot anymore.........he could hunt all over the state and have good mature deer to pick from. The other side of this "32 day long season" is that it has created a "Buck Hunting ONLY" mentality that is out of control ........and has lead to an over abudance of antlerless deer. So many use that 32 days in the middle of the rut to just buck hunt........and only take a doe..after they often have run out of time or vacation. Our DNR is responding to that........Our State Legislature has given them incentive to do something different since the "old way" isn't working for proper deer management.............and there is a survey up for those to fill out. Our DNR has the biology degrees..........I do not.........and they are the ones asking for feedback on this quality survey. I simply am the one passing it on here on this great forum. ............Why would you not want others to see this survey and label it as "spam"? .......Got some fear that good things/good changes might come about for our hunters and deer management in the great state of Indiana????? :eat: Thought so........ Gobblerstopper
Dew, to copy and paste a post from one board to numerous others and even joining a board to do so is spam. Regardless of it's intent. Don't ask me a question and then answer it yourself. It makes you look insecure about your opinions and leads people to believe that you only know what you have been told and are afraid of the answers. To answer your question though, I am not afraid of any changes. State mandated rack growing will not work unless the people of the state want it to. I have one on the wall as big as the buck you referred to and several just under it. Most before the OBR. Shows you what educated landowners can do without a couple of guys trying to get the state to make rules that they (the uneducated guys) think will put a buck behind every tree. Maybe if you educated your neighbors about shooting immature deer you would have bigger deer. You do own ground, right? Do you think the people of Illinois (who's gun season is supposed to be out of the rut, but I think opened the same weekend as ours), Iowa, Kansas and Wisconsin have big deer because of regulations or the mind-set of the hunters in those particular states? The rest of your post is your opinion.........we all have them.........glad you got your opinion off your chest.
Gobblerstopper
The "fact" that people have to be willing to pass on younger immature bucks to increase the number of mature bucks is an "opinion"? Last time I checked, they don't get any older or bigger after you kill them. Doesn't matter if you kill him the first day of a 7 day season or the last day of a 16 day season. Is it the fact that most of Indiana could not care less about the "trophy" potential of the state that makes swaying the DNR a better prospect than swaying the average hunter? Spreading the good word? I thought you 4 had this sewed up? Edited April 22, 2010 by Gobblerstopper
Bob LeBlanc
I take it, then, that this is the modern era debate of Trophy hunter versus Meat hunter? ie. meat in the freezer versus antlers on the wall? It's a crying shame that hunters get played one against the other... Bob
Scarlet Dew
Spreading the good word? I thought you 4 had this sewed up? Then it would be just 4 hunters that would get the survey from the Indiana DNR.........and that isn't the case. What's the matter?? You don't want more than 4 to "have this sewed up"..... growing to 5 that "have this sewed up" .....to 500 that "have this sewed up"............to 50,000+ that "have this sewed up"? I'd suggest doing what a bunch of us have done.............fill out the survey and continue to enjoy your day.
Gobblerstopper
I just thought I might get some answers to some of the questions that I asked, but it doesn't look like they gave you answers? Heck, they may have gathered more support for your agenda. Take care.
Scarlet Dew
Again.........here is the link for the survey...........fill it out to make a GREAT difference in this state. http://www.in.gov/dnr/fishwild/5904.htm **Move our gun season out of the rut **Shorten our excessive 32 days of gun season **Give hunters incentive to keep our antlerless population in check **Give incentive to recruit/keep more hunters in the sport with more mature deer to see/hunt LAST DAY TO FILL IN THE SURVEY!!! Was at a rally/meeting we had up here in Northern Indiana about this survey in the past few days. The momentum behind our IDNR for possible changes is TREMENDOUS. The hard work that has been done over the last year with our NRC comments, submitted proposals, e-mails and phone calls has worked..........A new Era in Indiana is upon us. bowana
I think a good compromise would be to allow crossbows during the entire archery season and move the firearms season to Thanksgiving weekend. Take 5 days and make an early season "Antlerless Only" season in mid October for firearms hunters. Again, the DNR must keep herd management priority one. They cannot afford to manage "quality", although with careful planning both can be achieved. On a personal note: THE DEER HUNTING WOODS/SWAMPS OF INDIANA...DO NOT BELONG TO THE INDIANA BOW HUNTER ASSOCIATION!
