dartonman
I have been blessed with a couple of them...had one that played basketball with the kids, he was a lab mix. But today, my 9 month old lab made me a believer he is a thinker for sure. He loves birds, well the scent of em anyway. I watched him take a mouthful of dog food, spread it around in a small area in the yard, and he pretended to sleep next to it. Yep, few minutes later he had a starling in the mouth, and then gobbled it up... He played this game all morning, and retrieved all the birds but the first appetizer. The dog is a genius...lol. al
Goinghuntin
Smart dog Al lol My smartest would be my cat Pouncer. He sat and watched us open and close the door by pulling down on the handle. So whenever he wanted to let himself in he just jumped up and grabbed hold of the door latch and swing to open the door Nathan
Tominator
Wow, that's pretty cool. Sadly, I don't think I've ever been blessed with an animal like that. All the ones I've owned have been dumb ***es.

Dawg
That's a smart dog Al! I guess the smartest animal I ever owned was my great dane. For the first two years of his life he chewed and tore up everything he could get his mouth on. After coming home and seeing my yard littered with tore up paper, chewed up shoes and toys, I commenced to whoopping him. After taking several whoopings, he learned the noise of my truck. When I would round the corner I would see him running up the hill away from the house. Ignorant but smart. He's gone on now and there are days I wish I could come home and see my yard littered with the junk he tore up.
coles
My grandma had a cat that would pee in the toilet. She was in the bathroom one day doing her hair and heard a noise like water splashing and turned around and her male cat was squatted on the toilet seat. She had no idea where he learned this from since she didnt train him to do it.
camoman1
Those are all smart companions thats for sure!!! We have always had Springers. We had one who would pick blackberries right off the bush....only the ripe ones, and she would just pluck them off the stem never getting stems with the berry. She also ate asparagus growing right out of the ground. It was always a race to beat the dog to it when we went picking.
buckee
That's pretty smart Al. Now how are you going to train him on pheasants, and not to eat them ..LOL ???
unioncountyslayer
Mine would be my first Boxer, "Bo". I did spend a lot of time with him, training him, but it was just in him. He responded to hand signals, and I swear understood full sentences. I could tell him to do something, like I would tell a kid, and he would go do it. I could take him to the park with 100 of dogs and never once had him on a leash. He would just stay right by my side and never pay attention to the other dogs around him. I swear he was half human. Everytime he comes up in conversation, the other person will say, "That Bo was human". Anyway, I know I'm probably a little partial, but I've since had 5 more Boxers and not one of them has, or has had the smarts of Bo. We lost him a few years ago to a brain tumor. Goinghuntin
I already mentioned my cat Pouncer but I also have to throw my dog Boots in there. He can tell at a glance what kind of mood I'm in, and when I'm upset he'll walk on over to me and rest his head on my knees looking up at me with an "it's okay buddy" look on his face Nathan
