Goinghuntin
Hey Shaun my dad has a 99 Blazer, bought it in rough condition and fixed it up. But the rear diff seems to be stuck locked, I don't know if it has a locking diff and it's just not un-locking for a turn. Dad checked the fluid level and said it was fine. I haven't gotten a chance to look at it yet. Any sage advice? Nathan
Shaun_300
Get it stuck real bad at all where one wheel was spinning a lot trying to get out? Seen this where it'll basically weld the spider gears together because of the extremely high heat within the gears giving you full time posi trac, as soon as they cool off they're welded together. The spider gears in a rear end spin when one wheel is turning faster than the other, this is what prevents the tires from locking up on a turn. They take up the slack of the one wheel by rotating in the carrier assembly. Sometimes the springs will break for the governer locker and do the same thing. Either way you're looking at having to replace the carrier if you want a limited slip differential again. If you don't mind them being locked all the time, just leave it the way it is. I've seen some people that want a posi trac rear end cheap if they just have a regular open diff. They just take the cover off, weld the spiders together with a welder and there you go, cheap posi. It was stuck that way when he bought it about a month and a half ago. Shaun_300 said: I've seen some people that want a posi trac rear end cheap if they just have a regular open diff.
