Swamphunter
My buddy and I want to plan a fishing trip for northern pike somewhere in NY where we can really get into them when the season opens. Yes we have them in the St. Lawrence river where we live, but we want a fishing get-away. Can anyone suggest some good ponds, or lakes that are either stocked up pretty well, or just have northern pike trying to jump in the boat to prevent getting the hook??? Thanks

The Bug House
Schroon Lake holds some doozers. I've caught a few over the years up to 8 - 10 lbs. Much less fishing pressure than Lake George, but there are a number of people around. If you're up for some camping, lightweight canoe is a must, some of the larger ponds in the Pharoah Lake Wilderness Area hold large fish including Northerns. Pharoah Lake, and Crane Pond in particular.
woolybear
Just looking for a weekend get a way check out the Alabama Swamps on the Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge. Plenty of fish in there and some nice scenery in there too when the pike aren't biting. Small Boat Harbor on Erie out of Buffalo is good place to start this time of year as well and offers some good smallie action too. You could hit both spots in a day if the bite is slow at one.
