franky85
I found these antlers last weekend. At first I thought that I had found the top of a skull with the antlers attached. Not rare, I know. However, after I looked closer I realized that these are shed antlers. The bases and brow tines are so big and such a mess that they grew together and came off the deer's head in one piece. Anyone ever heard of this? How rare is this? Zambo
Just got back from the Circle M antler auction in Iowa and they had a shed like that in a booth. I think he called it a shared base shed. He told me they have a category for this in the record books and his was number 4 in the world. Yours look bigger than the one he had, so it may go high in the record book. I don't know if there is a category or not, I am just relaying information. It may be worth looking into. Maybe someone else can confirm this. Great find, Congratulations. I'm sure it's a pretty rare find.
Crew999
Wow, very cool, and very rare! The North American Shed Hunting Club has a seperate category for these, they call them "matched solid plate" sheds. there are only 2 entries in the world, and the world record nets 128 7/8. This is according to the 4th edition of the record book (2008). Great find!

franky85
Not much.As for the sheds, on the NASHC forum I was told that there are 8 recorded sets of these in the world. I will sometime have to get a certified "NASHC" measurer to put a tape to them and I guess they can go in the NASHC Record book. As for the head, I boiled it and bleached the skull and it looks real good (and weird). I will try to post some pictures of it sometime maybe
