New here, have a question!

Hey ladies! I am so glad I found this place! My name is Ivy, I'm 25, and have two sons ages 7 and 3. I'm also from Oklahoma. I'm a new hunter, I finally got into it about 18 months ago. My family is all very into hunting, and I stayed away from it until I realized that if I wanted to spend time with my 7 year old son, well, I would need to go hunting with him, haha! I did some target shooting all last spring and then went dove hunting last fall, and then went deer hunting & got an 8pt buck my very first time out!

Here's my question- Has anyone here hunted during pregnancy? I'm currently 7 weeks pregnant, and I've gone over and over in my head what the dangers could be pregnant vs. not pregnant, and have only come up with a couple. Obviously I have someone with me at all times, I won't be climbing into an unsteady deer stand this fall, and I'm very cautious at all times. I went turkey hunting yesterday with my grandpa, and I was just fine. But whenever I say something about hunting while pregnant, I get the strangest reactions from people. They all seem to think it's so dangerous, maybe I'm missing something?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I look forward to getting to know you all!

My wife hunted some while pregnant, hunted just from blinds though and we hunt on our property behind our home so we felt it was relatively safe.

...Welcome to the Realtree forums!

-and, congratulations on an awesome buck this past season!

-great to hear you have gotten into the hunting, especially for your kids....-sounds like you've started off with a bang!

-as far as hunting while pregnant....I would say to just keep doing whatever you feel comfortable with...

-don't let pregnancy, or a newborn, keep you from enjoying the outdoors....- just bring them along with!

-as Wtnhunt stated, Mrswtnhunt deer hunted while pregnant....and like her, I would feel more comfortable hunting from a blind, than from a treestand while pregnant....it's just not as safe, or worth the risk of a fall, getting up and down a stand....and as you know, being with child throws you off balance to be begin with...

-I know there have been women who have, though...-not to say you shouldn't....they are more gutsy than I am!

-here's a black bear I shot and packed out(glad we didn't run into anybody on the way out)when I was 7 months pregnant....kind of an obscene picture...lol-

(caption should read):

"DOES THIS BLACK BEAR MAKE MY BUTT LOOK BIG???"

...and this was considered a decent size black bear...squared 6'8"...

-matter-of-fact....I was so big, I probably couldn't have gotten up into a stand if I wanted to...-lol- I just propped myself up on a log after clearing some shooting lanes toward the bait-

-I've posted this a couple of times before; the members here are probably tired of it...:o

-and I had to throw in a pic from a later AFTER I gave birth....showing the weight I lost-(you understand....it's a woman thing-;))

-nice wolverine we got that season....

-hitting 40 now, I'm somewhere inbetween...-lol-

.... Anyway....-just my input on hunting, and getting outdoors and enjoying what you want to do, while pregnant....-just be careful, pace yourself, and I can't wait to hear how you do this coming deer season,Annieoakley!

-Congratulations on your baby; and again....Welcome to the Realtree forums!

Wow, awesome pictures! Thanks for the advice :) I was sure there had to be other women who hunted during their pregnancies, I just wanted to hear firsthand that it wasn't a big deal. I don't think I'll be getting into a deer stand this fall, as I'll be about 8 1/2 months pregnant when deer season rolls around here, haha. I can hunt from a blind though, not problem there.

Welcome to Realtree! Great place to ask for any advice!

I'm not experienced in the pregnancy issues...but I would say you are safe to do what you are comfortable with. Have someone else to drag/lift the deer out for you and maybe avoid the treestands just because risk of a fall (I was watchign a program today and it said later on in pregnancy, as your belly gets bigger, it throws of your center of balance/gravity), but other than that, you are good to go. If you aren't comfortable with something, don't do it:) But otherwise everyone here has said basically the same thing:)

Welcome again, new faces always welcome!:)
