Shawn
Got this guy at 8:30 this morning. Got late start and didnt get into the woods until 7:30. Got walking down a logging road and called, nothing. Walked another 5 minutes down the road called and he gobbled back. After about 20 minutes this bird would not come down off the hill he was on. So i started mixing in a slate call with the box call with a variety of yelps, clucks, and purrs, and finally he came down the hill to 30 yards. He was all strutted out puttin on a nice show and then he spotted me. Head went straight up and it was then or never. The Old Western Field single shot 12 gauge with Copper Jacketed #4 shot put him right down. He had a 8 inch beard, 3/4 inch spurs, and weighed 18lbs or so approx. I went to one of my favorite hunting spots for deer, and turkey. One county south of Dutchess, went to Putnam county.
