Are we called to a destiny or purpose?

Hey guys, I'm not trying to start up a debate, but I've been wondering about something lately. Are we called to do something in this life, or to attain a destiny? Like I know some are called to be pastors and such, but what about the average joes, that just work at garage repairing cars or something ordinary?

I'm 27 years old and it feels like my life is starting over with the disillusion about to be complete. I've been praying about where the Lord wants me to be because I definitely want to be in the center of where He wants me to be. But I'm not sure where exactly that is.

So what are your thoughts about this?

REASON FOR LIFE

I don’t know how to say it

but somehow it seems to me,

That maybe we are stationed

where God wanted us to be.

That the little place you’re filling

is the reason for your birth,

And just to do the work you do

He put you on this earth.

If God had wanted otherwise

I guess he would have made

You just a little different

of a worse or better grade.

And since God knows and understands

all things of land and sea,

I fancy that He placed you here

just where He wanted you to be.

And sometimes you may get to thinking,

as your labors you review

That you should like a higher place

with greater tasks to do.

But come to the conclusion

when the envying is stilled,

That the post to which God sent you

is the post He wanted filled.

So you plod along and struggle

in the hope when day is through,

That you are really necessary

to the things God wants to do.

And there isn’t any service

You can give which you should scorn,

For it may be just the reason

God allowed you to be born.

I hope this helps.

....you know....

-thankyou for posting this!!....

-I've thought a lot about this very thing, myself....

-can I make a difference??

-what can I do??

....what good, or REAL impact can I leave on this earth??

.....and then I think about all of my children...

....and what do, and say to them...and around them....

............yet, maybe most importantly; what I don't do, or say, or try to be or attain........

-and, what I thought I went to school for, and what intentions I had for "MY" life.........

just had to add......(a verse from a Beetle's song)...

-"Life is what happens when we're busy making other plans........;)

(Ummm... No: I am not a "hippie" either...-lol-)

Every man was created with purpose.... Every man.....

Some have stages, others have radio and TV broadcast but it doesn’t make them any more important. No matter whether you’re a leader or an "Average Joe" you impact people directly. You thoughts, actions, and every move matter to those around you. The good Lord placed you where you are and even if you consider yourself an "Average Joe" you are instrumental in his love for all mankind.

Romans 8:28 -- And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

John 15:16 -- Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

Jeremiah 1:15 -- Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

Jeramie pretty much hit the nail on the head here.

Every man is called to service to help further the Word of God. Whether that be a preacher, teacher, singer or just being a witness to others. Don't be fooled into thinking that just because you can't put a title to you that it mean you aren't something. You can be a major impact on someone's life by simply sharing the Word of God with them.

Yes we are!

So what are your thoughts about this?

The Bible is very clear about this important topic, it gets me excited everytime I think about it. Notice some of the Scriptures that mention this point:

Romans 8:28-31 "And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified. What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?"

Notice we are "predestined" and notice what we are predestined to - "to be conformed to the image of His Son" So we are to be like Jesus. WWJD? And it's not only a few who are predestined, it's everyone in the world who ever lived cause in 2 Peter 3:9 we are told: "The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance." God wants everyone who has ever lived to be saved, but it's our choice to be conformed to His Son, we choose everyday when we do good or when we do wrong.

But my favorite Scripture about this is Ephesians 1:3-14, it's a little long but totally worth it! "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.

In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence, having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Himself, that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth—in Him. In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will, that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory.

In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory." So again we are "predestined" to a purpose. That purpose is the salvation of our souls, and the ministry we have toward other seekers in the world.

Some churches teach that we are "predestined" to be saved or not saved, but that's not what these Scriptures teach at all, if that were true, it would conflict with many other Scriptures that teach we have the freedom of choice.

Hope that helps! Isn't he Bible great!?!?!

God calls people to do different things. wether its being a pastor or cleaning toilets. both jobs are equally important and neither is anymore important in gods eyes. If you let god lead you he will guide you to were you are suppose to be and you will make a difference. you may not always see it for yourself but you will make a differance somewhere. and true greatness is acheived when you devote yourself to what god guides you to do no matter what it is.
