I have to agree with Pa. on this one. Most people who do not pay their taxes are not the poor and disadvantaged, but instead they tend to be wealthier individuals who are just trying to get away with whatever they can. These people are stealing from those who do pay. They take advantage of services paid for by the hard earned dollars/taxes paid by honest tax payers. Every time I see those TV commercials about those who owed the IRS thousands of dollars and yet paid pennies on a dollar because they could afford to pay someone to "negotiate" a settlement for them it makes my blood boil. How about paying their share so that the rest of us do not pay more to make up the difference? Then, there are those who work and get paid "under the table", businesses who get paid in cash, and ..... I could go on, but what really matters is these people are stealing services paid for by others. Yes, go after them and make them pay their share.

Um...anyone else feel threatened by our government?:mad:

Dakota

yes. me. as for a flat tax, canada inpose a national sales tax (on top of income tax) about 25 years ago, to pay for their "free" medical care. it was suppose to end within 10 years. well, it did not. now, they are attempting to add another 12% to the canadians sales tax. that means a 27% tax, i think.

is that correct, canuks? if so, i'd run and hide.

Actually the new tax (HST) will eliminate the provincial sales tax but add 7% to the Gst tax so there's absolutely no difference from before. It'll still be at 12%. 5 provinces have already joined in and BC is about to do the same on July 1st. It is hoped that this new way of taxing will get rid of some other taxes that were compounded throughout manufacture of most goods thereby allowing businesses to save money and pay higher wages. (we'll see about that). Somebody has to lose somewhere here, and I suspect it'll be the little guy as usual.
