92xj
School me on this place. I am going for the 4th of July Weekend. Getting in on Thursday night and leaving Monday midday. Staying at the Flamingo. I know its a money pit and there is gambling and women, but what else? Things to see and things to stay away from. Anybody close by that can bail me out if I need it? I believe this could be a very interesting weekend, VERY FUN, but very interesting.

AH hot barley dressed younger lady got on at the next floor... needless to say i got and " EXCUUUUUSE me" for staring i had to apologies and said i am sorry but folks in Fairbanks don't ever dress that way...She laughed ... "Alaska Eh?" here is one for free and gave-em a good wiggle.... i bought her coffee too that morning ... drinks are for the most part free if playing the slots or other.. i sat at the bar and 20 buck would last all night playing dollar poker on the machine..the shows are spendy but worth it... i even took (was hauled) mom to the THUNDER from Down under show... nothing like a room full of grandmas hooting at male strippers LOL
92xj
Will, that would be cool, but I am not sure how money much I am going to want to spend on transportation. I am thinking of saving money and only walking to the places I would like to see. But depending on where it's located I might be game. Your task, Will, is to find the address for me and I can look it up.

I am not a gambler at all, but if its cheaper to play dollar slots and get free drinks than not gambling and paying for drinks, looks like I will start to gamble. I would like to play a few card tables, but we shall see what happens. Is it worth going to the stratosphere?

hunterbobb
As far as transportation is concerned Las Vegas has an excellent bus system. You can get anywhere in the city by bus. A 24 unlimited pass costs $7. I think a three day pass was $20. When I was there I tried walking the first day. Big Mistake. The city is hugh and is spread out over a couple of different areas. Almost everything is associated with the casinos. Most of the shops and resturants are all inside the casino's. The Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam are only a couple hour drive outside of town. There are several tour companies that offer tours. For $80 I got picked up at my hotel fed breakfast and lunch and got a bus tour of Hoover dam and then a couple hours of site seeing and shopping at the grand Canyon. Then dropped off at my hotel in time for dinner All the cassino's have shows. Some are nude, some are entertainers like Wayne Newton or Magicians. Finally just walking down the strip is an adventure. Have fun.

Guest outdoorgirl
I have been to vegas a few times....first off you want to buy a bus pass for your transportaion which cost $5 for a 24 hour pass it just went up from 2.50.....this will get you around the strip cheap. They have bus stops all along the strip you'll be fine just keep to yourself on the bus...lol As for what to see on the strip of course the fountains at the Bellagio but do this when you do...Go at night to the Paris hotel and buy a ticket to the top of the Eiffel tower which is across the street from the Bellagio and see the strip at night and the fountains across the street from above .....You have to see a Vegas show...they are great !! Pleanty to do besides gamble....And don't forget Freemont st with the light show above your heads in a canopy that covers the street and puts on a good light show every so often i think its every half hour . Hoover dam is maybe 35 min from Vegas out the 215 to the 515. just watch for troopers... they were in full force last week strictly patroled... 15 cars pulled over in 1 mile and another line of motorcycle cops on the over pass waiting their turn.. the new over pass (by-pass) at the dam is an impressive site.. nearly 900 foot tall. would like to ride it once... ( HAHAHA NOT!) in an earth quake

muggs
I was just there 3 weeks ago. We stayed in the Monte Carlo. It's fairly cheap compared to the bigger casinos, it's got a great pool area, and it's right in the middle of the strip. Their casino there is pretty laid back too. You can always find an open seat. It's a good place to stay for less than say, the MGM and you're right in the middle of everything. Check out the Aria, the new casino (right next to the Monte Carlo) pretty sweet. If she's hot, but has an Adam's apple...don't talk to him...err...her. Mandalay Bay just opened a bar made entirely of ice. The bar itself, the stools, the glasses...all ice. They give you a parka and mittens when you go there. It was pretty cool. We went and saw an "adult-themed" hypnotist show that called themselves the Naughty Boys. It sounds kind of lame, but I don't think I've ever laugh that hard...hysterical. If you do go to see shows, they have booths that sell half-priced tickets. Go there early, they're just south of the MGM. Other than that, play Blackjack, best odds. I won about $600 playing over the course of 5 days. And no, no you don't always double-down on 11...not if the dealer is showing face or a ten...sucker bet. Split a pair of 2s or 3s if the dealer is showing a 6 or less. Good luck man. stevebeilgard
hoover dam is great, and the new bridge is extraordinary. go see them. we just went through vegas 6 weeks ago. i spent 5 years there from '66-'70 at Nellis afb. see the shows of your choice, do not gamble a penny, eat your fill of the great food, enjoy the free drinks, and stay away from the girls. the days will be about 120 degrees, evenings are simply wonderful and in the 90's. you'll see sunny skies all the time and will need your shorts & sun block. have fun. 92xj
I will try and take lots of pics, and get some pics that I can post here. I wish the trip was closer than July 4th. I am so ready to get there! Got everything booked and paid for yesterday, travel and hotel wise. I am in need of a vacation. I hope I make it out alive. If not, I know I didn't make it having fun!
