And in an odd way to bag a turkey, I Filled my first spring 2010 turkey tag this morning!! :1eye:

Couldn't go out last night after work, big storms came in...they kept up 1/2 the night, even woke me up. My alarm went off at 5am and I rolled over and went back to sleep...work's got me beat lately. Well I get up at 7:30 and decide a quick shower nd some run and gun on the "home ground" is in order. I leave the house at 8am, begin my walk. Was going to set up in me fav. corner of this corn field when I heard a gobble ring out in the woods...:jaw: I run down the field, throw out my decoy and set up in the corner...I pull out my A+J call and give some yelps and cluck...silence...Did that now and then, then I thought I heard a gobble again! It was a bit windy so hard to really key in on location. Well then a crow calls and I hear it gobble again. I pull out my crow call and give a crow and GOOBBLLE! It's now or never, I know right where he is, in this plowed field on the other side of this finger of pines. So I grab my decoy, put my A+J call in a pocket, leave my mouth call in and book it long this small deer trail to the other field. The wet ground and wind came to my advantage. I sneak up to this tree to peak out into the field and THERE HE IS! About 30 yards out, in the sun, 1/2 puffed up...Didn't act spooked so must not have seen me. He gobbles, I give some yelps back. He starts walking up the field. I get my gun raised up. I've got honeysuckle shrubs in front of me...I'm looking for any opening. Next thing I know he's walked past me and now up the field to my left. I decide to act. I duck down behind this bank that is the field edge and crawl on my hands and knees to this tree to my left, in hopes of a more clear opening...a little bit but not much. He gobbles again...poor guy all alone...I get my gun up, give a couple yelps and be gobbles back and turns and makes a B line right to me! Safety off...where am I going to shoot...there's brush right there...do I risk it...He's in a 1/2 strut...there's a small opening, he's almost on top of my, 15 yards and closing...ok I'm going for it, his head is up, BOOM!!!!!! Turkey down, turkey down!!!! Thank you Lord, oh thank you!! Fist pump, YES...YES!!!!! A jake but a great turkey none the less! 1/4" spurs, 4 1/2 inch beard and approx. 14 pounds...Going to be Mother's Day dinner!

I am so blessed...this was heaven sent. I am by no means a great turkey caller or hunter, IMO,lol, I chalk up my success to God's blessings. I had this feeling, similar to when I went out late last year and bagged my bird at 11:30am, but I wasn't paying too much attention to this feeling today, lol. The Mossberg 500 20 ga Super Bantam did it's thing at 10-12 yards through some honeysuckle twigs.

Thanks to Andy (bowhunter56) for the amazing work he does:

Plenty of month left to go to see if I can sweet talk in another gobbler with Andy's call:camera:
